Troops pay already cut in half?
Facebook already has a page where many are confirming that the troops pay has already been cut in half. My daughter is in the AF and she has also confirmed that their paycheck today is half of what it is supposed to be. So, even before we know the outcome, the military has already decided what is going to happen? I would love to hear from you guys. Maybe someone knows how they can do this before it has even happened.

2. at least they'll be paid something
Just heard from my employer -- Non-deployed troops will *not* be paid. DOD civilians will *not* be paid. Only a small number of stateside uniformed personnel are to be considered "essential." Most will be furloughed.

DOD Federal Credit Unions have agreed to "loan" the equivalent of their salaries to non-deployed troops, but there is no guarantee made that there will be retroactive pay when the government reopens.

3. No....my son is in the military. He won't be paid once the government
shuts down tonight. It will be April 9th, basically half way through his pay period. He will be paid for April 1 through April 8, but not for April 9 on until the government reopens. It could be that he'll get just half a paycheck, then if this goes on for months, he'll be without pay for that period also.

Sadly, Republicans refused to fund troops through September by voting down a continuing resolution that would address only military pay. Here's the roll call on that resolution: http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2011/roll246.xml

Instead of voting for that continuing resolution, the Republicans wrote their own and attached anti-abortion provisions for the District of Columbia in theirs. Then they claimed that Obama doesn't want to fund the troops.

Well...that isn't the case. Obama doesn't want to address abortion in a continuing resolution. It would be unfair for District of Columbia's abortion concerns to be balanced against troop pay.

23. There were two continuing resolutions that were voted
on this week. One funded military pay through September and nothing else. The other funded the military but also contained a poison pill that Republicans knew wouldn't be signed by Obama. Here's information on the one with the poison pill:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/dc-wire/post/gops-latest-stopgap-bill-includes-dc-abortion-rider-42-million-in-district-cuts/2011/04/05/AFhbBHjC_blog.html

Mind you, neither of these is an appropriations bill. They are merely continuing resolutions buying 7 days more to negotiate an actual bill. Republicans wanted to get the troop pay funding out there and play a game with it by essentially holding troop pay against abortion issues. They knew that Democrats would never agree to it. They wanted to be able to say Democrats won't fund the troops. The opposite is true since the Democrats tried to pass a clean continuing resolution funding troop pay, and only one Republican voted for it.

4. This is terrible.
Next time a Republican starts talking about "Supporting our Troops", I hope the Democrats bash them over the head with this.

16. i would love to see it too
But face it, at this point anything he does in the media will be turned upside down to be used against him and the progressives. In another time in our country when people came together for love of country, we could have seen it. I am disappointed but I cannot think of another person I would want driving at this time.

5. End the wars. That would be the best way to support our troops, and pay them.

6. Military pay comes out on the first and 15th of the month.
Unless they fall on weekends/holidays. I'm not sure why she would be getting a paycheck today.

9. The shut down starts half way through their pay period.
Their next pay check would only be through today, so half of normal. I'm guessing that's where the confusion is.

14. not sure she did
I think she knows because she has direct deposit. But she is not alone. The facebook page has quite a few that are already aware of it. This just sucks. I think we should be able to find some way our troops are not used as fodder in a political circus.

11. We get statements
that come out before our actual pay date that state how much we will get paid on the 1st and 15th. Yes mine for the 15th of this month says about half of what it should be. If there is no agreement and the shutdown continues through the 1st of May we will only get paid for the first 8 days of April.

17. Mostly worried about
things like Paying rents and mortages and utilities while being able to afford rediculous gas prices to be able to get to work. We as a group generally don't play the blame game we find solutions to problems no matter why the problem came about. There is no talk of taking our weapons to DC to force anything.

It would be fascinating to see how the politicians would handle that.

What happens when a father is declared a deadbeat dad by an angry wife when the automatic transfer doesn't happen?
