2 killed, 132 injured after 7.4 quake hits Miyagi Pref, vicinity

SENDAI

A strong aftershock that hit Japans tsunami-battered northeast on Thursday night killed two people and injured 132, officials said Friday.

The 7.4-magnitude earthquake, which struck at 11:32 p.m., was the strongest aftershock since a massive quake and tsunami pulverized hundreds of kilometers of the northeastern coast on March 11.

Fire department spokesman Junichi Sawada said Friday a 79-year-old man died of shock and a woman in her 60s was killed when her oxygen tank failed because of power outages. The national police agency says 132 people have been injured.

Among nuclear power plants in the region, no abnormalities have so far been reported as a result of the quake at the crisis-hit Fukushima Daiichi or the nearby Fukushima Daini. Some external power supply, however, was disrupted at suspended plants and a spent fuel reprocessing plant in Miyagi and Aomori prefectures, causing them to use backup generators.

2. Just a couple of hours ago, NHK was reporting only 6 injured
But the way that shaking felt from my location 200+ miles away, I knew it was going to be bad closer to the epicenter.

There was a Japanese TV program yesterday about Post-Trauma Distress Syndrome among earthquake/tsunami survivors. This is only going to make it worse, I'm afraid.
