Beck Pushed From Fox By Soros/Ailes/ACORN Cabal
By Paul Waldman | Posted 04/06/2011 at 07:51 PM

Oh, Glenn. We hardly knew ya.

In case you haven't heard, Glenn Beck will be giving up his Fox program later this year. His ratings had fallen dramatically in recent months (though he still beats his rivals on CNN and MSNBC), he lost hundreds of advertisers because of his more controversial statements, and within Fox, people were apparently embarrassed to be associated with him (though for some reason, the daily Mensa confab that is Fox & Friends remains safe). Beck will still have his nationally syndicated radio show, and his websites, and the eight or 10 books he writes a year. But he won't be on TV.

And TV is really what gave Beck all the attention he gets. His audience on radio is much larger than that on TV -- these days he gets under 2 million viewers a night, while Talkers magazine estimates his radio audience at 9 million -- and it was nearly that size before he came to Fox. But for the nation's media and political establishment, being on television is what makes you an important person, one worth writing about and talking about.

I'm guessing that relatively few people who read the Prospect actually ever sat through an hour of Beck's television program. But even if you've just seen some clips on The Daily Show, you've seen enough to understand: It's completely nuts. Not just ideologically extreme, which you could say about other programs on the network, but a level of sheer mania that just boggles the mind. I really don't think there's ever been anything like it on American television.

And that may have been part of what led to Beck's decline. Once he started drawing circles and arrows on that blackboard, painting every new development in the world as part of the secular/liberal/Islamist/communist conspiracy, it was really all or nothing. You couldn't be a casual Beck viewer -- either you followed him down the rabbit hole where the terrifying machinations of the sinister forces were revealed, and you needed to start stockpiling gold and "survival seeds," or you didn't.
Beckian paranoia is a whole worldview, one even most conservatives couldn't stomach. And so many of those conservatives began turning against him when they realized that he was discrediting their movement. (In this memorable post, Richmond Ramsey described conservatives' consternation at "Fox Geezer Syndrome," in which the network, particularly Beck, turns old people into ranting conspiracy theorists.) Beck never inspired the same kind of fear in elite conservatives that Rush Limbaugh did.

So that left him without much support as his show got more tiring. If every night you're being told that Armageddon is right around the corner, after a while you begin to wonder why it hasn't come. And the shtick just gets old. If tomorrow Lindsay Lohan ran over a squirrel, Beck would tell you she was put up to it by George Soros, working with ACORN and the ghost of Leon Trotsky to lull us to sleep while the totalitarian takeover proceeds. As Beck said on his show yesterday, "This is a global time we live in," because things aren't just happening here in the U.S., things are actually happening in many places around the world, unlike in prior eras, when ... oh, never mind. You probably wouldn't understand. But here's a taste:
video at link, and

1. It is a shame that the insanity will still be spewed from his radio pulpit.
Followers of nutjobs like Beck just never give up.

4. I for one, will be sorry to see him go. Not that I watched him, but consider this:
Where else will we find such fodder for our keen wit? An example of his tomfoolery last year:

Which produced this gem in the comments:

by News Corpse (December 01, 2010 9:38 pm ET) 12

"But Beck's logic is flawless.

State = National. Capitalism = Socialism. Thus State Capitalism = National Socialism. Ergo Progressives are Nazis.

It works with anything. Try it yourself with...say...Furry Kittens.

Furry = National. Kittens = Socialism. Thus Furry Kittens = National Socialism.

There you have it. Unassailable evidence that furry kittens are Nazis."

The man was a gold mine. Truly.

I shit you not!!

"Too Crazy For Fox" ~ That will be Beck's legacy.

7. I think O'Reilly booted him off Fox
BillO doesn't like being challenged even if you did have Beck on his show for the two nonsense peddlers to discuss their news of the day

11. I peeped at his t.v. thing & he was talking to himself with a blackboard
Yapping about "cascading" events. It was clearly beyond the attention span of his demographic or any demographic, like you have to be initiated into a whole scheme.

12. What's being lost in all this
Is that he's not really out at Fox. He cut a new deal with Fox but it's not for a daily tv show. The deal is with his media company. Sadly, he isn't going away.

14. I think faux cut a deal to save face; if he's losing viewership now,
I don't imagine anything else will be anymore successful. I hope he goes gently into the night, but you're right; that won't happen. Like palin, how can we miss them if they won't go away?

15. Cutting a new deal with his media company
To do future projects doesn't sound like saving face. Saving face would just be giving him exit money to go away.

16. his final show should be enlightening
If he goes off the deep end, even for him, then it will indicate to me that he is going away.

If he claims victory and boasts about how he will now be able to "inform" even more Americans, then he isn't going away.

I can't stand even 30 seconds of his crap, I've tried and I just can't do it. Even so, I may try and watch the final show just to see if his head explodes. Maybe I will watch it with the sound off, that might work.

13. 9 Millions Listeners? Prove It
The "source" is a magazine that is paid for by the corporates...and is notorious for making up numbers they can't substantiate (usually about Rushbo).

The deal is radio isn't rated on a national level...it's done market by market. The "number" is a big guestimate and my bets not a very recent one. Truth is radio listening has declined dramatically over the past decade and while hate radio hasn't fallen as far as other formats its is losing listeners and money just like the rest.

When Mike Harrison pulls a number out of his ass the corporate media believes it cause that's what they're paying him for...
