She did a practice run in the primary, and has pulled seven thousand votes for Prosser out of thin air.

11. I just watched the news conference on live stream
She confirmed the story of the election clerk. I just think we have to pause a bit to gather the facts before immediately hurling accusations of election fraud. Sometimes votes do fail to get reported correctly or completely, and then they are found upon doing the canvas. Kloppenburg has been benefitting all day from such processes. IIRC, this type of post-election recounting is the reason Al Franken is a Senator today.

15. City of Brookfield #'s not in totals given to media on election night.
Discrepancy found yesterday and reported to GAB. Hand counts confirmed new #'s. 14,315 votes. 10859 went to Prosser, 3456 for Klopp

13. People in Wisconsin need to DEMAND hand counted ballots NOW.
Edited on Thu Apr-07-11 06:28 PM by Matariki
It's clear they are doing this to avoid a recount. The 204 margin was mighty suspicious and a recount was probably going to show a lot of mischief. So, miracle of miracles - enough votes 'appear' to avoid the recount.

FUCKING BASTARDS.

16. This does not avoid a recount.
It avoids a free recount. The loser can request a recount but they have to pay for it. I don't know what the cost of that is.

19. I read in the state recount guide it IS free to the loser if the margin is less than 0,5%
Don't know what it is now, though

25. My understanding from what I have read is that it is just above the 0.5%.
I have not seen the actual numbers though in order to do the math.

27. $5 a ward. 3630 wards in the state, some of which have no registered voters.
I find it highly convenient that this shift suddenly makes the recount have a price tag for Kloppenberg.

17. We need to have a COURT ORDER to have hand counted ballots in that county
They use Optical Scan ballots -- must have a court order for a hand recount of them , otherwise they go back into the ES&S (Diebold) tabulator computer to be counted.

22. I am seeing conflicting reports
It seems that you may be on the ground in WI.

1. Are the ballots of all locations paper?
2. If so, is the process to turn the ballots over on election night?
3. If so it would be easy to confirm.

If the ballots are not turned over then what safeguard is in place to create extra votes and update the total count?

Just seems strange that a Repub supporter finds 14k votes and it takes almost two days.

29. thanks for the clarification
Do you have a big back yard? We may need to have a camp out to get this mess straitened out.

Based upon previous concerns with her 'secrecy' I am concerned what impact she could have. The good news if she pulled something off idependently she would have likely made mistakes along the line and could be setting herself up for a big fall.

She looks like the older sister of the backwards B girl.

24. You know, as horrible as this is..
...people should stop screaming voter fraud until we know the full story and find out if Democratic election officials in Wisconsin end up concurring with the new count.

Simply screaming "VOTER FRAUD" is silly until we know the facts.

Would the Teabaggers steal this election if they could, absolutely, we all know that. But I haven't even seen where the Democratic election officials in Wisconsin believe there is fraud at this time.

As far as I am concerned the fact that this election was this close, essentially 50/50, is the real bad news. This WAS a referendum on Walker's anti union legislation. There is no use trying to sugar coat it. We were fully mobilized and had tons of energy and emotion (and a lot of money spent on our side) and Walker's appalling anti-worker agenda apparently STILL has the support of roughly half the Wisconsin voting public. THAT is the real bad news here.

28. It's election fraud, not voter fraud, and a county clerk who keeps all the records
on a PC that she guards from scrutiny is highly suspicious. That the flip puts the recount over into paid territory is suspicious. That Prosser's mouthpiece was talking about "preserving a victory" yesterday, before this was publicly announced, is suspicious.

It could turn out to be legit, but it stinks on ice.

Unfortunately, I just read that the Democratic member of the canvass, Ramona Kitzinger, concurs with the new count.

31. That doesn't mean the count reflects the actual ballots. If the tabulators aren't
counting correctly, the canvass would be re-checking bogus sub-tallies. The county clerk's computer should be checked and the actual ballots should be counted by hand, IMO.

32. Yes, of course everything should be checked...
And a full investigation should follow. Still, these sorts of mistakes do happen. We usually don't notice the sausage making of counting and canvassing elections because they usually aren't this close.

The bottom line is, the Democratic canvass member agrees with these new numbers. It is very possible, even likely, that the new count is correct and that Prosser is now in the lead and may end up winning.

As I've stated before, I was most disappointed by the closeness of the race. Considering the radical legislation Walker has been pushing, I am disturbed that half the Wisconsin voting public approves of what he is doing. If tomorrow 10,000 votes are found for Kloppenburg and she goes back into the lead, I will still be disappointed it was even this close to begin with.

...election system. The stakes are high in Wisconsin...but they'll be even higher in 2012. Better to have the debate around a non-presidential crisis.

Don't you think?

First the debate...then improve the system. We know how to make it work fairly.
