Conservatives unveil alternative budget with $9.1 trillion in cuts
http://thehill.com/blogs/on-the-money/budget/154591-con...

The House Republican Study Committee on Thursday released an alternative to the 2012 budget resolution from Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) that would cut $9.1 trillion over the next decade.

The RSC, a 176-member caucus, will offer the plan, entitled Honest Solutions, as a floor amendment to the budget resolution next week. The GOP budget plan was passed by the House Budget Committee late Wednesday.

Whereas Ryan's plan would balance the federal budget by 2040, the RSC plan would do so by 2020.

It does so by cutting $3.3 trillion more over 10 years than Ryan's plan. The Ryan budget resolution cuts $5.8 trillion over the next decade, while the RSC plan would cut $9.1 trillion.

Compared to the status quo, the RSC plan shaves $4.95 trillion from deficits over 10 years, compared to a $1.65 trillion cutting of the deficits in the GOP budget. Like the Ryan plan, the RSC amendment does not include tax increases and extends the Bush-era tax rates.

The RSC would eliminate trade adjustment assistance, block grant Supplemental Security Income and reduce traditional welfare and child nutrition spending. The plan eliminates direct payments to farmers to save $50 billion over 10 years and eliminates new enrollment in farm conservation programs.

4. Saving money the Republican way
"Don't fill the tank with gas, that costs money! Just run the car until it stops. Let whoever's driving then deal with it." But what if you're in the middle of nowhere? Walking all the way to a station and back will take lots of time, and you'll have to stop and fill up anyway. You might even have to call a tow truck, and that can be really expensive. And what about the damage to the fuel system? It's not good to run the system completely out of gas because it damages the components.

"NO! Don't put in any gas. All those costs are hypothetical; filling the tank is a real, present expense we can't afford!"
