Bill to eliminate franchise tax goes to Missouri governor
JEFFERSON CITY | Its now up to Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon to decide whether to eliminate franchise taxes on businesses in the state.

The House on Wednesday passed a bill 105-51 phasing out the tax over five years by gradually reducing the rate at which businesses are taxed.

The measure passed the Senate in February and the House approved it without changes, moving it on to the governor.

Supporters say eliminating the tax will encourage businesses to grow, because they will no longer be taxed for making additional investments in the state. The measure was a top priority for the states Chamber of Commerce and other business groups.

It is an calculated race to the bottom.
