NY Archbishop claims more sexual abuse by public school teachers than priests
Archbishop Timothy Dolan defended comments he made on his blog that the rate of sexual abuse among New York City public school teachers is higher than that among priests.

In the post dated March 18, Dolan described an encounter with a man at a Denver airport who ripped into the Catholic Church for its history of sexual abuse.

Dolan, in the post, said he responded by telling the stranger that the "rate of sexual abuse among public school teachers is 10 times higher than that of priests."

When asked where the statistics Dolan cited were from, a spokeswoman for the New York Archdiocese cited a NYS Special Commissioner of Investigation report that substantiated 78 abuse cases by teachers in 2009, and 73 such cases last year.

Another 2009 study from John Jay on incidence of priest sexual abuse was also cited.

5. What a stupid comparison. He's looking at raw numbers, not percentages.
There are a hell of a lot more public school teachers than there are priests. A proper comparison would be proportional. But they're well-known for this kind of bullshit tactic. That's like using the statistic that most of the molestation was perpetrated on little boys as evidence that the pedophile priests are "gay"...nevermind the fact that the priests did not historically have private, secluded ACCESS to little girls the way that they did to little boys because there were no "altar girls" in the Catholic Church until the mid 1990's--and even now, the proportion of girls to boys is low. But oh wait...they've already done that.

Idiots.

7. Since there are more teachers than priests, that may be true
But it doesn't justify the cover up by the RCC.
