What proof do we have that Obama has lost his base?
I have read a lot of posts here saying he has lost his base. But I am not sure we can decide that yet. I know a lot of people are disappointed in Obama and I am in some respects but I am still not sure he has lost his base.

The upcoming election will be telling as it will be interesting to see if Obama raises a lot of money from individual donors like he did last time.

If Obama raises record setting amounts of small donations again from individual donors then I think maybe he has not lost his base.

22. I think 80% is very poor and proves he has lost some base
If you look back, Nixon was at 89% among republicans,
reagan 85%. GW Bush 90% and Big Dod was 85% among Dems. So 80% sounds a little light to me.

3. I think it's not a question of support but enthusiasm
There was going to be a drop-off in the latter almost no matter what happened as inspiring messages met reality, but insofar as there is more of an enthusiasm gap between '12 and '08, I think a lot of it can be blamed on a very passive and conservative (small c) approach to the issues.

6. I 100% agree I am not as excited as I was in 2008, but I think 2008 was....
a once in a lifetime experience. I think my expectations were way too high. My own fault maybe.

9. I think Obama got so over hyped in 2008 that he became almost god like
in many peoples eyes. Its kind of like the way they hype alot of movies and video games, then they turn out just to be ok and because of all the hype they seem worse then they actually are.

15. I agree. But was that the campaigns fault for doing too good a job or ours...
for believing he was God? I am not sure myself. But he is still 100% better than any other GOP person.

12. Our expectations were not too high. We gave him a mandate AND
a majority to get it done and it was squandered, every last bit of it. I am his base - no $$ from me. Not to have him only think of the corporations. He can get his money from those he represents then.

Cheers
Sandy

8. The people who are completely against Obama
are kind of like the tea party in this way, they scream and cry loudest, so they believe that they are the majority voice. I know I'm probably going to get flamed for this but this is what I see.

All I know is that he has lost me and that is all that matter to me now! I am no longer going to abide all this fancy footwork of his when it comes to standing for the liberal principles.

24. I will be voting for sure
Especially to help along other liberals/progressives trying to make a comeback here in Austin Texas. As for the Presidential ballot, I don't know at this time. I may have to skip it and vote for other progressive/liberal Dems and independents down on the ballot line.

23. I'm on the local Democratic Committee and have worked campaigns...
for years, but have never once, ever, heard any actual Democrats out working in the trenches talk seriously about Obama's "base." Or anyone else's, for that matter.

It's a fiction invented by media, bloggers, and airheads on discussion boards.

28. The "lesser of two evils" is still evil.
Edited on Thu Apr-07-11 02:22 PM by Edweird
One wants to gouge one of your eyes out.
The other wants to gouge both of them out.
Which do you choose?
I choose neither. I am against eye gouging.
I stand against ALL eye gougers.
I will not willingly accept it.
Fuck the 'lesser' AND 'greater' evils.

32. I will fight just a violently against both. Neither are acceptable. Neither are my ally.
Furthermore, what prevents the single eye gouger
from later becoming a two eye gouger.
We've already established that the one eye gouger
is evil, only allegedly less so thab the two eye
gouger. Evil lies. Claiming to be a one eye
gouger may simply have been a ploy to get elected
when the plan was to gouge both eyes all along.
Do not trust evil.

He's either at 80% approval or the base didn't vote and cost him the House In the last election... Depends on what day it is or whether or not Obama's supporters need someone other than Obama and the Democrats to blame for the fact that the Democrats are governing like 1970's Republicans.
