Want to Opt Out of Behavioral Advertising? Tired of being followed while you surf the web?
Go to these two web sites:

http://www.networkadvertising.org/managing/opt_out.asp

http://www.evidon.com/consumers/profile_manager#tab3

follow the instruction, if you don't allow third-party cookies, allow them and the advertising will basically cease.

It works.

What is amazing are how many fucking companies are out there following you around the web.

Have a nice dai........

3. Hold it. I've been NOT allowing cookies in order to protect myself from being followed around. Pls
explain how allowing them is going to do that.

Note: I don't like seeing ads, but I'm more concerned about my privacy; so if this gets rid of ads at the expense of my privacy, it's not for me.

Thanks.

5. To opt out of these sites they have to set one cookie
it sounds like a catch 22 but it works.

6. The World Privacy Forum says opt out site has many problems.
http://www.worldprivacyforum.org has put out a report ( in pdf format, found here:

http://www.worldprivacyforum.org/pdf/WPF_NAI_report_Nov2_2007fs.pdf

that says:

1. opt out cookies don't work consistently
2. the opt out system ignores newer tracking techniques
3. the opt out system does not include "the majority" of advertisers
4. the opt out system lacks transparency and independence

the opt out is a response by advertisers for self regulation, as opposed to imposed privacy mandates.

The report discusses why these self regulating does not work.

Short read, very educational on how we are being tracked by "behavioral advertising".

( I use Ad-Block with Firefox, so see few ads)

8. Great catch, for those that still use Internet Error, you need these
IE9 REALLY helps too, but it isn't XP and Vista friendly, and its interface needs work.

9. Actually, i have started using the add-on Better Privacy, from Mozilla.
Simple interface, deletes all Flash cookies ( LSOs), can be set to automatic or manual delete.
Seems to work fine for those hidden permanent trackers.
I checked the forums and googled for complaints, did not find any serious issues.
