Smart and articulate are great but to have the courage to fight for your convictions - there is the rub.

The whole thing is great, but check out 1:00 and 4:00 for him talking about his name.

7. Unfortunately to get to that point he would need to sell and compromise himself.
Just because a person might make a good president doesn't mean they are even remotely capable of being elected president, particularly with a member of Congress who may not be capable of being elected to anything higher in their own state other than in their congressional district.

So it doesn't matter how smart and articulate one may be or how much courage they have to fight for their convictions, as far as being president goes unless they can be elected it goes for naught.

17. No, I'm not in his district though. I just emailed him to thank him for standing up for the people
and then threw that in and told him I would absolutely vote for him.

12. If Weiner were President...
Half the left would abandon him over his ultra-hawkish views on Israel/Palestine.

The left is perpetually looking for something to be outraged over, and no where is this more evident than in their response to the necessary compromises politicians make in order to craft and implement actual policy. Lincoln was too willing to forgive the Confederates. Theodore Roosevelt was a chauvinistic imperialist. Franklin Roosevelt was a tool of state capitalism. Lyndon Johnson was a feckless warmonger. On and on and on. And then after they die, these same Devils are later whitewashed as progressive saints in order to provide some semblance of cohesion to a political doctrine that is mostly defined by its utter lack of cohesion.

This is why we can't have nice things.

In fifty years, the American left will chastise whatever poor slob the Democrats put in the White House as a "corporate puppet," and wonder why we can't have great champions of the common folk like Barack Obama.

21. We need Weiner to be on his toes and to protect himself. I remember when Obama
was an up and coming star and was repeatedly propositioned by women at the Congressional Black Caucus in his first year(s)in Washington. No doubt the GOP will try and destroy who is good and strong amongst democrats. Go Weiner go!

22. If Anthony Weiner was President, he would be facing the EXACT SAME VITRIOL that Obama is facing.
Edited on Mon Apr-04-11 11:16 PM by BzaDem
The problem is not with Obama. It is with people's misunderstanding of high school civics and the power of the President. There will always be people who will never be satisfied with any President the party successfully elects, and Weiner would be no exception to that rule.

Yup, I'm sure of it.

Obama secretly wants to keep it open.

29. Congress made him select Vilsack, Gates, Salazar, Geitner, Summers, and the rest of the corporatist
Congress made him declare the authority to sentence an American citizen to death without the benefit of charges, much less a trial?

Congress ordered hands off BushCo?

Congress ordered Bernake be renominated?

Congress commanded that Wall Street be treated with a wag of the finger followed with a wink and a nod?

Congress decreed that BP be given command of the Coast Guard, a veto of the EPA, and the ability to regulate the press?

Congress worked the backroom deals with pharma and the insurance cartel?

Congress forced the President and the DNC to back regressive incumbents?

Most of the decisions purely in the President's domain have sucked ass and there are solid reasons to believe he has worked to water down important pieces of legislation and plenty of reason to believe that. The President and his people have been leading in the wrong direction or not at all.

Certainly, you will accept that there are those that disagree with you that have a lot more under their belts than high school civics.

The President appointments and actions are his "tell" and what I am seeing indicated is he is as much of the problem as Congress was before power switched.

30. The Dem leadership counts on Wiener to be our shiny object/ray of hope.
Him and Bernie Sanders. They both get lots of airtime telling the real Democrats everything we want to here...and then come back to say, "Hey, I tried, but no one would listen to me." They are our beacon of hope on an increasingly hopeless journey.
