Democrats consider proposing tax hikes
http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/152931-democrats-consider-proposing-tax-increases

Senate Democrats are discussing plans to introduce tax policy changes that they say would raise federal revenues and broaden the budget debate beyond discretionary spending cuts.

(snip)
One proposal that has gained early support is a surtax on millionaires.

Liberals such as Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Carl Levin (D-Mich.), who still chafe over an $858 billion deal President Obama struck with GOP leaders to extend the George W. Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy, favor a surtax.

“There’s no reason why we should not have a surtax on millionaires,” said Levin. “The upper 1 percent has doubled their share of national income. They’ve gone from 8 percent to 17 percent, and middle-income people have taken a big hit.

2. being an under educated working guy, I would have a word of advice
for them; GET ON THE TELEVISION AND EXPLAIN TO THE MASSES THAT THOSE THAT WRECKED THE ECONOMY,SHIPPED THEIR JOBS OVERSEAS

AND ARE CURRENTLY STEALING THEIR RETIREMENT ARE NOT PAYING THEIR FAIR SHARE OF TAXES.

I sincerely doubt that will ever happen though.

3. I still chafe over that too.
But they're wasting their breath. We're stuck with the Bush tax cuts for two more years at least.

6. We need a steep, progressive income tax on the wealthy
The wealthy are given a choice:

invest in beneficial programs (like clean renewable energy) or the Government will tax your money and do it for you.

Also targeted use of the tax code to return the communication spectrum back to the people. The right wingers who hog up the radio spectrum for their single issue broadcasts should get the 90% tax rate. Political indoctrination cable channels need to be forced to provide a balance, or pay at the highest rate. The people own the airwaves, not some well funded political organization like Clear Channel.

If we do not control the message, the teabaggers will poison the well and there will be no fairness in the tax code.

7. Neither party will ever raise taxes
Because it will be used against them in coming elections.

Even if they only raise taxes on the rich, which they should do, the campaign slogans will be filled with lies telling the people, he/she voted to raise taxes. The critters are afraid of that very thing.

10. The ONLY thing Democrats can actually do is rally the country
Edited on Thu Mar-31-11 08:15 AM by Bandit
and their base if they still have a base.. They can not pass legislation because Republicans will stop it dead. The ONLY thing left is to have an all out publicity campaign trying to rally the country to do what is right and get rid of those that simply want to destroy America and all it stands for. We need to see Democrats on every single talk show every single day from now til November 2012.. Unless they dedicate their time to awakening the masses they will accomplish nothing..

9. So basically the Democratic strategy is...
...sit on your ass until an idea like raising taxes on millionaires becomes a trend. Then wait until the trend hits you in the ass with a 2 X 4.

Then propose something about half what it should be.
