Temperature and Removal of Contaminated Water Difficulties in Fukushima #1 and #2 Reactors

2011/3/30 10:41

The first nuclear power plant damaged by earthquake Toukyoudenryoku Hukushima East have struggled to win the removal of water contaminated with high concentrations of radioactive material. Unit 1 to 3, but plans to eliminate contamination of underground water turbine building in order to restore the original cooling system, water is believed to have leaked from the reactor effluent can not keep working. On the other hand, the temperature rises and the reactor pressure vessel is also followed by the No. 2 No. 1, the injection cases disturbs the 続Kezaru, TEPCO is working to coordinate the last moment.

Contaminated water from 1 turbine building basement and outdoor tunnel in Unit 4 (trench) is seen to have built up thousands of tons, respectively. The No. 2 and 3 are connected to the turbine building underground tunnels and a high radiation dose accumulation of polluted water. The tunnel is connected to the Unit 1 turbine building first floor there is no water, low radiation dose for water tunnel, expected to TEPCO has entered the water tunnel of the tsunami.

The Unit 1 turbine building underground water pollution from 24 back to the reactor water vapor, "condenser" fed into the work began. Although the current pace in sending 18 tons per hour, the water had accumulated a depth of 40 centimeters, according to TEPCO basement one day the situation is not decreased - just two centimeters.

Unit 2 - 3 full capacity because of the condenser, the policy calls transferred to another tank condensate storage tank water condenser. However, about half the water and also accumulating condensate storage tank, surge tank and a further 10 per hour to 25 tons of this water - began to move. This task is expected to take 60 to 90 hours. Unit 4 Work to be determined. On the other hand, tends to 1 Unit 2 reactor pressure vessel temperature increases. 29 days one time, 300 degrees Celsius over the No. 1 and No. 2 was close to 200 degrees. TEPCO has been working to cool the reactor coolant, is seen as part of the turbine building leaked water injection, water injection amount is adjusted while watching the reactor temperature and pressure.

2. Truly caught between a rock and a hard place
in this situation, needing both to cool it down and to get rid of the radioactive water from cooling it down..

That's a fine and hazardous line to walking.

6. I am okay.
I am not leaving and at 400 miles from Fukushima, I think I am okay.

The mood of the people in my area is that they want to help, they hope things get better, and they are continuing to live their lives.

On the other hand, a friend in Tokyo is thinking of temporarily moving his company to the Osaka area because the blackouts are such a big deal.
