Laugh, Cry, Scream: These people believe that May 21st is the end of days.

"The Bible guarantees it!

-------------------

You know, I'm wondering if I can somehow file a claim if the apocalypse doesn't happen on the 21st of May. I mean, it's guaranteed in the Bible. Is there a return department I can contact?

11. how funny -- they say "Gay Pride was planned by God ..."
"The world-wide success of the Gay Pride/Same Sex Marriage movement is a dramatic sign provided by God to warn the world that the world is on the threshold of Judgment Day."

Sounds like God is helping out the gays. Doesn't that mean his followers should stop their bigoted opposition to the same?

27. The fall of the house of cards of Ussher.
The age of the earth was "calculated" by a guy named James Ussher, a bishop from northern Ireland, in the 1600s. Because creative research is not exactly the forte of these kinds of people, they have been stealing Ussher's conjecture-and-error ridden work without citation for 400 years, always slightly reworking it for a short-term payoff. Science isn't exactly the sharpest tool in their bag, either, so Ussher and those who followed him largely based their work on the flawed Julian calendar.

Cult leaders, in turn, use the end of the world scheme as a way to solidify and enlarge their flocks of suckers. That's because it actually works better when the prediction is wrong. Decades of famous studies show that cult followers ride right along to the "end of the world" day, and become even more involved afterward, because the cult leaders always tell them that, thanks to their prayers, God (through the cult leader) has seen fit to temporarily avert disaster. Until the cult needs more members and money, that is.

29. Try to imagine having the kind of mind that falls for such idiotic crap.
It's a real stretch to try to picture what would have to be wrong with you to make you become one of these deluded people. I wonder how the profound psychosis demonstrated here manifests itself in other areas of their lives. Can they tie their shoes?

40. The numbers work out. I double checked them.
http://articles.sfgate.com/2010-01-01/bay-area/17466332_1_east-bay-bay-area-first-time-camping

The number 5, Camping concluded, equals "atonement." Ten is "completeness." Seventeen means "heaven." Camping patiently explained how he reached his conclusion for May 21, 2011.

"Christ hung on the cross April 1, 33 A.D.," he began. "Now go to April 1 of 2011 A.D., and that's 1,978 years."

Camping then multiplied 1,978 by 365.2422 days - the number of days in each solar year, not to be confused with a calendar year.

Next, Camping noted that April 1 to May 21 encompasses 51 days. Add 51 to the sum of previous multiplication total, and it equals 722,500.

Camping realized that (5 x 10 x 17) x (5 x 10 x 17) = 722,500.

Or put into words: (Atonement x Completeness x Heaven), squared.

"Five times 10 times 17 is telling you a story," Camping said. "It's the story from the time Christ made payment for your sins until you're completely saved.

"I tell ya, I just about fell off my chair when I realized that," Camping said.
