LIBYA: Rebels execute black immigrants while forces kidnap others
Source: Somalilandpress

While much of the world’s attention is focusing on crude oil prices and the Libyan pipelines in the east of the country– human right groups say rebels are committing crimes against humanity.

In east Libya, African hunt began as towns and cities began fall under the control of Libyan rebels, mobs and gangs. They started to detain, insult, rape and even executing black immigrants, students and refugees.

In the past two weeks, more than 100 Africans from various Sub-Sahara states are believed to have been killed by Libyan rebels and their supporters.

Please be careful with this source. There is some suspicion that it has ties to Qaddafi.

3. Some racist comments on that site...
Here's a "gem": "There are many many more black Africans than there are Caucasian North Africans and blacks have higher birth rates. If Libyans are kinds to blacks, Libya will eventually become a black country. What would you suggest if they wish to maintain their ethnic identity and not be swamped by blacks? What would your solution be? And don't give me this "we are all the same..." B.S.; that is just like saying "the whole world will be black - and then we will all be the same". I think there is something to be said for diversity and, if the whole world is black, there is less diversity."

There are many black citizens of Libya. They must be embraced by all political elements in Libya. Libya is an Arabic-speaking country, but it is an African country!

4. Dated Three Weeks Ago, Sir, And Well Reported At The Time
There is no doubt a number of Africans have been killed during this episode, many wthout the remotest shred of good cause.

5. Maybe because Gadafi brought in black mercenaries who killed civilians?
Those immigrants started fleeing the country 2 weeks ago, when those mercenaries showed up. They knew, they would get mistaken for them.

7. I fail to see the justification.
"Most sub-Saharan Africans in Libya are poor economic immigrants. Some were mercenaries, however, so the killing or torture any black African that fails to flee is justified."

That's the same kind of communal thinking that infected the American South for so long and led to anti-black pogroms. It's the same kind of communal thinking that infected Central and Eastern Europe for so long and led to anti-Jewish pogroms there.

If you're having a revolution for justice, peace, democracy, do you really start it based on one of the most vindictive forms of racism around? Is *that* what we're asked to support? (It's rather like bombing Surt in the name of tranquility so that the rebels can peacefully re-take a city that they never had by force, to let them conquer a bastion of Gaddhafi support in order to protect all the rebels living here, and to let the rebels lock up and kill people without a trial in the name of freedom.)

The immigrants started fleeing the country before the black mercenaries were brought in. One typically flees a deteriorating situation, esp. when the very reason you were there is because of the dictator's beneficence and protection.

Palestinian's fled Kuwait when Iraq was kicked out, not because they were mercenaries but because they were favored by the one that native Kuwaitis hated. Palestinians fled Iraq when Saddam was deposed not because they were mercenaries but because they had been favored by Saddam. Nativist sentiment hated both sets of Palestinians for the perks, real or imagined, that they got. In other words, the subSaharan blacks knew that there was likely to be not just massive amounts of inconvenience and economic hardship but that these would be made worse because of local racism with nobody to protect them. Hardly a glowing recommendation.
