Did universal service stop Israel from starting wars?
Edited on Sun Mar-20-11 04:58 PM by originalpckelly
I don't think so. And it's about as universal as you can get. Young men AND women participate. It lasts only a year long for men in most cases, but women do serve and can see actual combat duty.

Is that what you pro-draft folks want, based upon a the stupid ass idea that it will stop a war? You know, I'm thinking, it didn't stop them, so it might not stop us. I say this not to start an I/P flame-war, but to point out universal service does not work like a charm to end a war or prevent one. If anything, it gives a military more individuals to kill off in a war.

I mean, as we all know, WWII was prevented by the US policy of conscription, right?
And WWI?
And the US Civil War?

All I can say for the draft people: morons.

Wars do not happen because people really want them. No one wants to die, aside from a few people in a population who are suicidal. But the whole of the US military is not suicidal. Wars happen for all kinds of reasons. There are many theories as to why they happen, but none the major ones I've read about include a volunteer army.
