Biden, Solis Make 2012 Pitch to Labor
By Melanie Trottman

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2011/03/18/biden-solis-make-2012-pitch-to-labor/

...On the call, Mr. Biden and Ms. Solis sought to reverse criticism that the Obama administration hadn’t forcefully spoken out about the Wisconsin situation. The two used the word “we” a lot when talking about the need to keep fighting attempts to curb union-related rights, which they called efforts to “break unions.” They also reminded the listeners on the call of steps the Obama administration has taken to help workers.

But the bigger point of the town hall seemed to be lining up labor unions’ support for the 2012 elections. When Mr. Trumka said a caller from Ohio wanted to know why the “little guys” are being picked on now, Ms. Solis suggested that union members let some candidates win in the midterms – against their own interest. “Unfortunately, in the last election cycle in November, a lot of our folks stayed home,” she said. The current attacks on workers’ rights “should mobilize us,” she added, without ever mentioning any political party.

Mr. Biden credited labor with building the middle class and talked about “the absolute necessity of collectively bargaining,” as he delivered a blunt message: “It’s about the elections.”

........

Way to go Joe!

5. I'd be happier if this was more about the cause of labor itself than "lining up support for 2012."
Which, frankly, is what it always seems to be. Praise for two years; collect on endorsements, volunteers and phone banks; then ignore for two years.

I'd feel a hell of a lot better about this lovefest if EFCA were a reality.
