2. Even their dogs are better
than a lot of Americans these days.
That story was just heartbreaking - pure love.

3. It's hard to watch the human suffering
then to top it off with the animals...

NOLA, Haiti all the misery. Now Japan - and we all feel so hopeless, unable to do something to help.

4. This story just proves how uncaring people are in america.
I sure people would have rescued the one dog and put the other one down if that happened in a right wing state.

7. They are rescuing animals also. Unlike what was done
here in NOLA when they refused to take pets and many people refused to leave without them. I don't know if we ever found out who issued that heartless and as it turned out, stupid order. Or how many people died as a result, along with their pets. But I do remember reading that many of the animals left to fend for themselves, became feral, or died, creating a whole other problem.

In the video of the two dogs, it says that recuing animals is part of their job also. A humane society. What ever happened to this one?

Beautiful story and I'm so glad it had a happy ending.

8. That dog must be a Democrat

A Republican dog would have left by now, probably to go dig up the other dog's bones and toys.

The Republican dog would complain the injured dog was expecting government help!

JAPAN: IMMINENT DANGER
March 16, 2011, 3:37AM MT
By Sharon St Joan, Best Friends Network
Rescue organizations in Japan are working to rescue animals, despite the immense challenges and dangers.

As the world watches Japan, waiting for a possible imminent, nuclear catastrophe, there is no way to tell what the next few days and hours will bring.

We continue to keep the people and animals there in our thoughts and prayers.

As you’ll read below, there are many groups out in the field working to rescue the animals. These facts were gathered yesterday, and they’re overshadowed by the ominous developments of today, in which the Fukushima nuclear facilities appear to be in a state of meltdown beyond anyone’s control. The workers have been withdrawn from the site due to the extremely high radiation levels. They are heroes, risking their own lives and health; the last few worked to try to save the situation until the last moment before they were evacuated.

These are multiple catastrophes, piled one upon the other, and there is also looming the specter of economic catastrophe. All this threatens both the people and animals of Japan.

... more at http://network.bestfriends.org/golocal/international/16870/news.aspx

There's a list of animal rescue sites accepting donations at the end of the post.
One organizations is dividing up its donations to all the rescue groups: Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support,
They have a paypal donation page in English at http://www.heart-tokushima.com/ENGLISH/WELCOME.html but currency is in yen.
However, if you go to the ChipIn page at http://japanearthquakeanimalrelief.chipin.com/japan-earthquake-animal-rescue-and-support ... that page is in Japanese but the fields are obvious. But i prefer using it because the currency is in US dollars.

Their facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/pages/Japan-Earthquake-Animal-Rescue-and-Support/207835229228979?sk=info
