NYT story on the 50 brave workers
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/16/world/asia/16workers.html?_r=1

snip

'They are the faceless 50, the unnamed operators who stayed behind. They have volunteered, or been assigned, to pump seawater on dangerously exposed nuclear fuel, already thought to be partly melting and spewing radioactive material, to prevent full meltdowns that could throw thousands of tons of radioactive dust high into the air and imperil millions of their compatriots.'

1. This is courage.
I don't suppose any of them have very long to live, although some might surprise us. They deserve every comfort and help that the world can provide.

2. They're likely dead already
This whole thing has been nothing but obfuscation from the start. To what end, I know not.

3. To what end? Trying to cover it, of course.
CTA: cover thy ass. But in this case, cover it so the people won't see how it glows. ;-)

6. Those plants are dead. There's nothing left to protect.
And a lot of reason to discourage a public outcry for executive suicides. (Lovely custom, requires a sense of personal honor and obligation.)
