Today brought a new attack on public broadcasting funding
Edited on Tue Mar-15-11 08:20 PM by Kablooie
( email I received from [email protected])

In less than 48 hours the House of Representatives will vote on H.R. 1076, legislation that would prohibit NPR from receiving any federal funding and prohibit local public radio stations from using federal funding to acquire ANY radio programming.

Can you imagine your local radio station without Morning Edition, Marketplace, All Things Considered, This American Life, The Tavis Smiley Show, StoryCorps, A Prairie Home Companion, Talk of the Nation, Car Talk, On Being, The Splendid Table, or Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me?

If H.R. 1076 becomes law, many local public radio stations, particularly those in rural areas, would have difficulty continuing to provide the news, public affairs, and other high-quality programming millions of Americans rely on every day.

Even if you have recently called, this direct threat to public radio requires renewed action.

Please call the office of your U.S. Representative at (202) 224-3121 and urge them to oppose H.R. 1076 when it comes to the floor for a vote this Thursday.

Here are some talking points when making your call:
I support NPR and their programming which millions of Americans listen to every day.
I support my local public radio station and want them to have the freedom to choose programming to best serve my community's needs.
I strongly urge you to oppose H.R. 1076.

What else can you do today?
Send a personal message to your friends and family asking them to call their Members of Congress in opposition to H.R. 1076.
Encourage your friends and family to join 170MillionAmericans.org and our Facebook page.
Thank you for your sticking with us during these repeated challenges to the future of public media in America. If you take action today we can make a real difference in the fight to save public broadcasting!

1. Clap! Clap! Do a worksheet!
They Republicans will keep on chipping away until everyone is dumbed down to the level of the 30% that support them regardless of how stupid their policies are.
