German man castrates teenage daughter's 57-year-old boyfriend
Helmut Seifert, 47, an ethnic German originally from Russia, was enraged when he heard his 17-year-old daughter was having a relationship with Phillip Genscher, 57. He went to police in the town of Bielefeld where he lives but officers said they were powerless to intervene. "The man then recruited two work colleagues at his factory and then went to the house of the victim," said police.

"The man was forced to remove his trousers and, fully conscious, he was castrated. The severed testicles were taken away by the perpetrator." The man was close to bleeding to death but managed to call police. His life was saved but he remains a eunuch for life.

Seifert pleaded guilty and will be on trial for attempted murder next year. But he has remained silent on who his accomplices were. He told police: "I received a phone call anonymously that my daughter was involved with a guy 40 years older than her. You said you couldn't stop him – so I did.

"I saw it as my duty as a father."

44. It is legal in Germany, as in most of Europe.
It's legal in some parts of the US as well. Frankly considering 17 year olds as "little girls" or "little boys" is completely laughable.

49. 17 is legal in all but 12 American states.
In most of the country, the age of consent is 16. It doesn't matter if the other partner is 20 or 50.

Most of those 12 states also have "Romeo & Juliet" laws lowering the age of consent when the partner is close in age. Only a handful of states (like California) criminalize all sex under 18.

11. Interesting that he's a Russian German
Edited on Mon Dec-13-10 01:12 PM by RZM
There were pockets of German settlement in the Russian Empire -- a large number were brought by Catherine the Great in the 18th century to settle along the Volga steppe in the South. They mostly kept to themselves and didn't intermarry with Russians or convert to Orthodoxy. Many came to the US, Canada, and South America in the 1800s and a good number settled in the Great Plains. During WWII, Soviet Germans were the first group to be deported en masse in 1941. After the war, like the other deported groups, their area of settlement was not restored and many were forced to remain in their places of exile. After the Soviet collapse, the German government allowed them to settle in Germany and many of those who qualified took advantage of the opportunity, including, I'm assuming, this guy.

On a side note, I wonder if he was inspired by Abelard and Heloise?

12. A 17 year old girl who would date a man 40 years older than her
has daddy issues.

"Often though, in the colloquial sense, the idea of having daddy issues relates more to the fact that a girl received inadequate or inappropriate attention from the father figure in her life. An absent father might trigger a girl’s desire to seek male approval elsewhere, and as a teen or young adult, to do so in a sexual manner. An abusive father might seriously wound a father/daughter relationship. Girls, or young women, might express unresolved daddy issues by seeking relationships of a sexual or romantic nature with older men, or alternately, they might replicate their poor relationships with fathers by having abusive partners. Generally, daddy issues implies that a female remains incomplete and seeks some sort of fatherly or familial relationship with mates, which is not the best foundation upon which to build a relationship."

We seek partners to fill emotional and psychological holes in our lives and we view these relationships as being natural and healthy while seeking to denigrate the relationships and pairings of others as being based on "issues" or otherwise dysfunctional.

Perhaps she does have daddy issues -- who cares as long as she finds happiness?

20. Well said.
We all act and react based (usually) on prior actions\stimuli\relationships. That is human nature.

I will also state that (as a poster said upstream), that I would not be too happy if my 17 year old was dating someone older than me - but a punch in the nose would have been more than enough.

47. Noo.....
Punching the guy in the nose is ridiculous on the face of it (no pun intended). If the parent feels strongly that the relationship is inappropriate, then there are civil ways to deal with that. The parent can, simply ask the partner to end the relationship (unlikely, I know, but it is a remedy that can and should be tried). The parent can take some kind of legal action. We are talking about a minor child, after all. I would certainly enroll the child in a course of therapy to determine if there's an underlying issue surrounding the relationship.

Violence is not acceptable. Period.

41. Was your daughter also of the age of consent?
Seriously, not only was there no crime, but this is a particularly, heinous brutal act that not only was terribly painful, left someone permanently mutilated, but almost killed someone--in a slow agonizing, way.

Look, I think a 57 year-old who dates a 17 is creepy--Hell, I felt like a creeper when I dated someone two years younger than me! But seriously, there is no justification for what the father did. What if he just didn't like the boyfriend for other reasons? Would you still empathize then?

Even if the boyfriend had committed a crime (which he did not) that doesn't excuse barbaric behavior. It's why we have the 8th Amendment in this country, but I see that's not very popular--even on a progressive message board.

60. She was 13-14 and while I did not physically attack him, I did cause him a tremendous amount of
grief. Ten years later he was still bitching how I ruined his life. Even then he knew better that to get physical, though I offered him the opportunity at the time.

Do not confuse empathy with condoning what happened...while I can see where he was coming from, I agree that it was wrong.

IIRC, 17 is below the age of consent in some localities.

35. "justice"? For what?
There was NO CRIME! There was no wrong committed for which justice needed to be sought. The young lady was of legal age and there was no criminal activity going on, so I'm at a loss to understand where you're coming up with the "justice" angle.

There aren't two valid sides here -- there are three criminally violent offenders and a victim who has been horrifically mutilated in one of the worst ways imaginable.

Are you implying justice works better where there is less development and that there is less of a need to resort to 'vigilantism.' I don't think that international organizations that monitor these things would agree with your statement that this is the 'only way to get justice' in Germany.

If a man mutilated a woman's labia because his son was involved with her? I expect I'd just be upset and not joke. I am thinking here, wondering if it is because of so many "balls" jokes prevalent in our society?

Interesting thought, will think more on this and why. Thanks Codeine.

If the girl in the story had been just a bit younger, you'd have seen outright cheering on DU. That bothers me a whole lot more than people finding humor in a story like this.

Have you had to deal with the stigma of being a convicted sex offender for a "crime" as stupid as this? Many, many people have threatened me with castration (oddly enough, not the girl's father, but people who just felt like being "big men").

There's a lot of sick people that are going to laud this guy as a hero. Fuck them.

Is it a little odd? Yeah, I agree, because of the huge (in general, not in all cases) maturity difference between a 17 year old and a 57 year old...but if both knew what they were doing and genuinely loved each other, this is inexcusable, and this guy should spend the rest of his life behind bars.
