BBC: Cooling system pump has stopped at Tokai nuclear plant (New one)
Edited on Sun Mar-13-11 11:36 AM by thewiseguy
I do not have any links yet. Just breaking.

Yet more worrying trouble for Japan's nuclear power systems. Following "partial meltdowns" at Fukushima nuclear plant, and a state of emergency being declared at Onagawa after a radiation leak, now "Tokai No.2" plant is in jeopardy.

The cooling system pump at the nuclear plant, 120km north of Tokyo, has stopped.

It is also a boiling water reactor, and suffered a nuclear accident in 1999.

We'll keep you updated...

4. Saw that on the BBC blog and found a Reuters article
with the same info, but no more to add.

The BBC blog had it under a paragraph about power cuts.

Yesterday I had noticed a paragraph in a Swiss article that noted 11 plants were affected in some way. It does not note how minor or serious the range is.

http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/politics/foreign_affairs/Nuclear_fears_grow_amid_unprecedented_disaster_.html?cid=29710846

Of Japan’s 55 nuclear plants, 11 were affected by the events and several had cooling problems. Most worrying, an explosion which blew the roof off the Fukushima Daiichi Number 1 nuclear power plant 240km north of Tokyo on Saturday. A 20km evacuation zone was being enforced.

It looks to me that we have been hearing about the most immediate problems, which are at Fukushima, but now are hearing about some of the other ones, with Onagawa and now Tokai.
