What happened to the boats that got caught up in those whirlpools?
Did they just twirl around till it stopped? Was there a danger of them getting sucked down?

1. Many of them were probably smashed together and destroyed.

2. Are you referring to that photo of one boat caught in that massive whirlpool?

If so I was wondering the same thing.

but I believe there were several whirlpools formed. I'm pretty sure that I saw a video with like 2-3 boats being sucked in too.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one wondering.

Thanks for the welcome! :hi:

(edit to add video link) Doh!

4. Usually those are the death throws for a boat to be caught in that.

5. I saw video of 2-3 ocean-going ships just getting sucked under until maybe 10% was visible.
I'm sure they probably popped up later but that was the footage where the whole town was wiped out entirely so you just couldn't see anything anymore.

That was really unreal to watch, btw.

6. Was this Friday, 3/11/11 footage or from some other incident?
I didn't see any footage like that from this past Friday's event, but I could have missed that one. Sounds really frightening!

Anyway, I was hoping that that wasn't the answer to my question. d*mn

9. If you saw the footage which shows the city in the valley being wiped out, the very...

...beginning of that video shows the ships getting clobbered. But this was NOT the video of the lone boat being moved around in the whirlpool.

BTW, something similar happened during the big quake in Alaska in the 50's/60's and a bunch of fishing ships (so not ocean-going ships like happened in this event but smaller fishing boats, like a shrimp boat if you know the size of that) just got sucked right under.

I saw ships tossed quite a ways inland and most of those ships would have a crew of at least 50 people. In fact the sheer number of enormous ships I've seen totally fucked by this thing is astounding- ships in excess of 80-100+ feet. Anyway, I did not see a single ship when the helicopters which were flying over the next day, I didn't see a single one with people on it.
