HuffPo: Obama Shies Away from Union Protests
"WASHINGTON — Union leaders urged Vice President Joe Biden during a White House meeting last month to go to Wisconsin and rally the faithful in their fight against Gov. Scott Walker's move to curtail collective bargaining rights for most public employees.

Request rebuffed, they asked for Labor Secretary Hilda Solis. So far, however, the White House has stayed away from any trips to Madison, the state capital, or other states in the throes of union battles. The Obama administration is treading carefully on the contentious political issue that has led to a national debate over the power that public sector unions wield in negotiating wages and benefits."

Fucking pathetic.

Remember this guy?

"And understand this: If American workers are being denied their right to organize and collectively bargain when I’m in the White House, I will put on a comfortable pair of shoes myself, I’ll will walk on that picket line with you as President of the United States of America. Because workers deserve to know that somebody is standing in their corner."

Barack Obama, 2007

2. Candidate Obama and President Obama are two completely different people.
Much like his predecessor, he has moved to the right once he took the oath of office.

5. It would be 'too much drama'
for this admin. I swear this admin wouldn't see an excellent photo op opportunity even it bit Daley's nose.

What the hell is dramatic about standing up for middle class workers....Obama's radio message today was about how much he wanted equality for women.
:wow: But he won't support teachers and nurses fighting for a decent job....most of the people Walker is hurting as women.

He's as hypocritical as the rethugs.

7. Yet just about an hour ago, when one of the "Fab 14" Dem. Senators was asked if he was
disappointed that Obama didn't walk with them like he said he would do in '07, he said NO, that Obama is very clear that he stands with them, and that he's busy with Libya right now among other things.

8. That was Spencer Coggs, I think.
A true gentleman, and a loyal Democrat.

18. The oldest one was Fred Risser. Spencer is the black guy.
Spencer said something about Obama being preoccupied with Libya and about his popularity rising as a result of Walker in the earlier press conference. It could have been Risser--or Bob Jauch for that matter, who is no spring chicken either. Risser is something like 84 and has a white beard.

19. One of the 14 said he'd welcome Obama to come ...
Edited on Sat Mar-12-11 05:28 PM by eleny
He went on to say that there would be more rallies thus more chances for the president to come to Wisconsin. I believe it was Sen. Spencer Cogg.

That was earlier in the press conference the 14 held today.

20. I think it was Bob Jauch then that I saw. I didn't see Spencer's response. My video feed cut off.
I don't think it was Risser, though. He wasn't THAT old.

11. 2008 voters were 88% non-unions. Obama is tap dancing between the 12% versus 88%. nt
