In your TV interviews, press releases, speeches, explain that the government is good. It provides necessary programs for the community (schools, libraries, etc.)Give some specific examples in your community how federal funding was able to pay for a water treatment system, a public park, etc. Be specific so people understand there really isn't that much waste in government spending (defense spending is excluded).
Discuss how tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations the past 10 years have put a huge strain on budgets, but simply raising taxes back to normal levels, we could eliminate most of these shortfalls.
Explain very clearly that Republicans and their corporate donors and lobbyists are only interested in one thing: TAX CUTS. It really doesn't matter how many breaks you give them, they are going to ask for more and are going to pretend taxes are too burdensome for them to invest. They are going to pretend that they are "uncertain" and don't want to hire...BULLSHIT. Call them out for it for the love of God.
Stand up for the people of Wisconsin, even if you don't represent the state. Say that labor unions are good. Stand up for the common worker. Trust me, you will get tons of support.
Explain to your constituents that this whole fight over deficits and the national debt is really just a ploy to cut government programs and services that help people who are poor or middle class. Republicans hate hate hate these programs and are ideologically opposed and will lie to get the cuts they want. They think if you were born poor, it is God's will and you should remain that way without any help.
There are a lot more things that could be discussed (outsourcing, exhorbitant healthcare costs) but I really think we need Democrats, besides Sanders and Kucinich, to be shouting these things from the rooftops every damn day like the Republicans do until these things sink in.
