After all, their bargaining rights are being stripped away too.

I think they will do the bare minimum that they have to do, but nothing more.

1. Walker exempted police and firefighters this round.
But so far far the police in Madison have been decent.

3. Walker exempted the State Troopers from the bill
Edited on Thu Mar-10-11 01:38 PM by emulatorloo
"Last week, the Republican governor announced he intended to end collective bargaining for most public employees, but the State Patrol and local firefighters and law enforcement would be exempt from the law. The Legislature plans to take up the proposal this week, with a possible vote on Thursday.

That leaves UW and Capitol police officers and Department of Motor Vehicles field agents, all of which are also represented by Fuller's union, out in the cold.

Much of the backlash comes from the fact that the Wisconsin State Troopers' Association, a lobbying group which is not affiliated with the WLEA, endorsed Walker during last year's campaign, against the wishes of many in the union. And the Troopers Association was quick to applaud Walker's move to exempt the State Patrol from the curtailment of bargaining rights. The Troopers' Association, a group that lobbies for benefits, isn't affiliated with the WLEA,"

Even with the Troopers it may be complicated - this article indicates that many know or are married to state employees.

5. I think the "Troopers' Association" (lobbying group) endorsed him, but the union did not

at least per that article I linked to when I edited.

Which also indicates that Walker was trying to spit the union by exempting some members but not others.

"Much of the backlash comes from the fact that the Wisconsin State Troopers' Association, a lobbying group which is not affiliated with the WLEA (Wisconsin Law Enforcement Association) , endorsed Walker during last year's campaign, against the wishes of many in the union. And the Troopers Association was quick to applaud Walker's move to exempt the State Patrol from the curtailment of bargaining rights. The Troopers' Association, a group that lobbies for benefits, isn't affiliated with the WLEA,"

6. Law enforcement officers are a good lot on balance. They don't like this any more than anyone else.
Walker is fucking them sideways by putting them in this position.
