Great Threads That Sink

I posted this clip from That Daily Show where Jon Stewart raises the question - if repugs believe life starts at conception and they know that Obama was conceived in Hawaii (the U.S.A.) - then why don't they believe he is an American citizen?

It quickly surpassed the # of views, kicks, and recs.

Apart from that, I've seen many great threads sink. I'm not entirely sure why, although a general factor seems to be whether they're compelling from a p.r. p.o.v. (i.e., whether they appeal to primitive emotions or drives -- posts that excite anger or prurience seem to do better, on average) -- sometimes some of the posts I consider most valuable, with lots of factual info and links, seem to sink for that reason, although those also sometimes also attract unrecs from apparent trolls.

Also, for me personally, videos are a relatively time-consuming way to get info; I can read text much faster; so at least for me, there's a bit more of a hurdle for video posts.

Posting threads with titles like BUSH SUCKS or Conservatism is a sickness! or threads like yours about Rush Limbo will always get more views because one must open the thread to rec it.

They get more recs because everyone wants to be seen as being in agreement with anything derogatory concerning the gop, conservatives, or teabaggers.

That's the way I see it anyway.

11. It's the sheer huge volume of threads and only so much home page that causes it IMO

After awhile on this site I finally noticed where more threads could be read and was astounded by how many great topics/threads were not visible on the home page.

so change the law and Jon has a point, until then it is just a bad joke.

Maybe it's my mood at the moment...

but I didn't even have the heart to look...because I thought that too many ultra-fanatic Repubs might just gravitate to that idea...and it would catch hold in the fundi-group-mind hive or collective.

I've actually encountered a few ultra right religious types in Ontario.. and it isn't pretty.. they will believe anything that furthers their cause :(

I see so many wonderful, thoughtful, well-written posts that get no replies (maybe a couple of recs).

And then there are all of those that begin with some inanity such as, "I was standing in line at the grocery store...", or "At lunch break today, a co-worker...'. or "RUSH LIMBAUGH NAKED....", and people are all over it.

I wouldn't click on the thread... the mental picture was already horrendous and I didn't want to subject myself to the abuse.

As for the JS post... I must have missed that one. Although I would have rec'd it.


And.. I don't think you have to worry about most DU members...they are a great group.

22. I have noticed that it depends on the time of day

as whether or not there is interaction on some threads....

It's as if the morning crew is more serious, and perhaps looking for material for their day jobs, and the night crew is more light hearted, but serious as the same time. Of course these are just blatant generalizations.....
