“Global warming” or “climate change” the wording matters to some.
Republicans were less likely to endorse that the phenomenon is real when it was referred to as “global warming” (44.0%) rather than “climate change” (60.2%), whereas Democrats were unaffected by question wording (86.9% vs. 86.4%). As a result, the partisan divide on the issue dropped from 42.9 percentage points under a “global warming” frame to 26.2 percentage points under a “climate change” frame.

1. The just proves that democrats are more educated then republicans
The fact that we can distinguish that "global warming" and "climate change" mean one in same and that the majority of republicans can not proves this.

3. well global warming is used by fox noise to make it sound like
a myth. and when you think of global warming you think of temps getting warmer and every time it snows they say, look!! guess global warming is a lie. but it is a misnomer because it truly is climate change.... more extreme temperatures, hurricanes, snowstorms.... heat..... and I think that isn't so easily laughed off.

4. The literal mind cannot understand the nuances of the phrase 'Global Warming'.
I have to agree that even though we know what 'Global Warming' means, it's better to use the more precise term 'Climate Change'. I can't count the number of times I have heard various numb-nuts laugh at 'global warming' just because of a cold day in June.

5. I'm of the mind that we need to lift their awareness up, so I just combine the phrases
Edited on Fri Mar-04-11 11:36 AM by Uncle Joe
and speak of them both together "Global warming climate change."

The problem with just using the Republican preferred "climate change" is that at its' core, the frame is changed away from the fundamental cause and effect global disease to one focused on symptoms. I can't help but believe this is deliberate in the FOX based propaganda world.

7. Both terms are correct, but "climate change" is the more-general term.
As the planet warms, the climate changes, so that local climates go all different directions.

An example: if melting ice dilutes Gulf Stream water enough, it will prevent it from flowing, so northern Europe could end up freezing.

8. It doesn't really matter, it's pretty much a dead issue.
This thread did better than most GW threads in GD. Even DU doesn't give it much thought. These threads belong in the E/E forum, but nobody bothers to alert on them because there's so few of them and they roll off the front page and die quickly.
