So, while DU was down it seems a lot of people went into withdrawal.
Just to provide a little help for all of you who are having trouble with your addiction, I offer a rerun of a 12-step program I first offered here in February 2008. At that time, in the heat of the primaries, there was a rule limiting posters to no more than 3 OPs in GD-P on any given day. I'm leaving the reference to that rule in Step 11 for historical context.

Without further ado, here are--

The 12 Suggested Steps of DUmmies Unanimous

1. We admitted we were powerless over GD-P--that our lives had become unmanageable.

2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could tombstone us at will.

3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of Skinner as we understood Him.

4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of the opposing candidate(s) and their advocates.

5. Admitted to the Magistrate the exact nature of their wrongs.

6. Were entirely ready to have The Admin remove all these defects of character.

7. Humbly asked Them to remove our tombstones and reinstate us.

8. Made a list of all persons whom we had put on Ignore or whose threads we had hijacked, and became willing to fake amends to them all.

9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would entail inconveniences on our part.

10. Continued to take inventory of opposing candidates and their proponents and when they were wrong promptly tried to make them admit it.

11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with Admin, as we understood Them, praying only that they would undercount our daily GD-P threads and overlook our flamewars.

12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to the trolls, Morans and FReepers.

2. My name is japple and I'm a DU addict. I admit that I nearly panicked
when I couldn't log on for 2-1/2 days and had to resort to using a {{{{shudder}}} proxy server.

4. I have to admit, my first thought was...
Anonymous. I had just finished reading a thread about Anonymous taking down anyone they please and then I lost DU. There were several remarks about how Anonymous wouldn't touch DU because we're pretty much on the same side. I was wondering if they did, just to make a point!:tinfoilhat:

5. Great minds....and all that stuff. I thought the same thing for 2 days.
I was totally lost. I had no idea how much I depended on DU as my news source. I tried watching CNN and that was a joke. MSNBC was gone. I'd die before I'd watch FOX, so I was down to the local newspaper, which is always a day late and a dollar short on news.

I couldn't remember the name of the desperation site to go to, so I just suffered, grumbled and wept. Not good.:dilemma:

DU is up and the sun is shining. All's right with the world, except Libya, Egypt, Wisconsin....

6. I made a google attempt and located a kid from "free republic"
who gave me the IP address for DU. I used that until DU was available to all.

7. Does DU do twitter?
During the blackout I did a quick search but found nothing. I was hoping to find an explanation or something. I did found a few conspiracies though.
