It's 38 degrees F in Miami
15 degrees F in Atlanta and 66.2F degrees in Kingston Jamaica.
I don't ever remember 66.2 degrees in Kingston, Jamaica.

7. LOL
I remember when people went to Florida to escape winter. Florida may break all records in the next 24 hours.

It's 30 in Orlando. By the way the record low for Kingston is 57F/14C.

In the new climate it appears that Florida is "growing" real winters.

33. Yep, 21F here in Edmonton, Alberta.
Supposed to get up to 27F today.
with the wind it's only 7F right now though.
And this is 'nice' weather for us at this time of year, lol.
Still, it's weird we're the same as some places in Florida.

8. 27 F on my Tallahassee FL front porch, probably 3-5 degrees colder away from the house
The weather station at the airport is reading 27 which is weird. Usually they are 5 degrees colder than we are here.

Malaise, Do you know if in 1989 it got really cold in Jamaica? That was the year it got down to 8 degrees F here in Tallahassee. We were downstate and drove back Christmas Day to take care of the farm. The trees south of Perry, Florida were covered in ice. I'd never seen anything like that.

9. I'd have to check
It's gets very cold (by our standards) in parts of the parish of Manchester 40s and 50s. That's the only parish where people have fireplaces. :D

Florida cold fronts normally affect us. On days like today everyone in the Bahamas will wear a winter coat.

59. I grew up in Central Florida where fireplaces are decorations and not functional
And when it got below 60 F we all thought it was freezing and layered on all our clothes. No one but my grandmother owned real winter coats, and she wore the ones she had from her youth in Michigan.

The first year I came up here to Tallahassee, it got down to 18 degrees F. The fountain in front of the university administration building froze solid. I had no clothes appropriate for that kind of weather and was soooooo cold. The good thing was that my dorm room was on the top floor so it was always very warm. The people on the first and second floors complained about no heat.

58. Bullwinkles is still there, according to the newest phone book
I haven't even been down that part of Tennessee Street in years and I never went to Bullwinkles. It opened after I graduated and I was never much of a bar person. I never drank beer (just rum) - now I don't drink at all and the bar scene is not my style. I once went to the poolhall that pre-dated Bullwinkles, but was not impressed.

I'm staying inside, in the warmth!

34. I remember that year. I was in Mobile Ala.
temps remained in the freezing range for about 2 weeks, and I bitterly regretted no longer having a down coat.
That was the year of no orange trees, right?

It was 17 at 5 am this morning in SW Ala. about 90 miles due north of Pensacola.

56. Yeah, oranges froze on the trees or in the trucks on the way to market
Or on the way to the juice processors. We had to replace about a third of our trees in our two small groves south of Bartow - and our groves are in warm spots that seldom get freeze damage!

Here at the farm in Tallahassee we had four inches of ice on the water troughs where we usually have no ice. They had problems with asphalt on the roads just popping up from ice freezing under cracks. It had never happened here before.

The coldest it got here last night on the front porch was about 25. Everybody is cold, but it's manageable.

17. It's not too bad here in Ojai, Southern Ca. tonight, probably around
40 degrees. But last week it went down to 29 deg. at night and was around 40 during the daytime. This is my first winter here and everyone tells me this is very unusual. Also it was raining for several days, and so cold I expected to see ice.

I always thought it 'never rains in S. California' and that the skies were always blue and the temp. never went below 70! But, looks like I was wrong ~

20. 38 degrees in Naples
and 20 degrees on Long Island where we are leaving for on Saturday. I'm ok with this. I have a down coat but certainly don't need that in Florida, even with these temps. My mid weight jacket is fine. Layer, layer, layer.

I suppose different strokes for different folks. I LIKE cold weather, and snow. I am a polar bear living in Florida, for now.

It's been raining steadily, and the whole place is soggy. I haven't had to start a fire for 2 days.

36. For people who have never been "south"
down here we are in "sub-tropical" zone, and So. Fla, not to mention Jamacia, is "tropical"
so having this kind of cold for 2 years in a row is not what we are used to.
(not "normal")

Plus, for folks out west of the Rockies, the humidity EAST of the Mississippi makes cold weather even worse.
I have been much more comfortable in 20 degrees of snowfall in Washington state than in 30 degrees of cold here in Ala.
Any skin that is not covered is going to feel painfully cold, esp. since we seem to get a lovely north wind with the cold temps.
I have discovered that even indoors, socks are my friend.

to my friends further north, I send sympathies, and wonder how you stand it at all.
My friend in Iowa cheerfully emails it is "only" 6 degrees today.
Seems it has be minus degrees before it is "cold" to her.
Just the thought sends me in search of a hot water bottle.

I believe that's what 12-21-2012 is about. A scenario like in the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" is going to play out. Miami better get used to having winters like Fargo in the future.

I hope I can get out of here before it happens. Natal, Brazil would be my destination of choice. Anywhere within 10* latitude of the equator should still have a warm climate.

53. The sole comfort is that it still is warmer here than points north.
But yeah, cold weather sucks. Hence why I moved to Florida.

The thing about weather extremes is that if it is really hot out, I simply think, "It's really hot out." And then I might think about going to the pool at the first available opportunity, but that's about it.

But when it's really cold out, I literally have a visceral reaction. Cold stings. It's just painful. I have no desire to want to go out in the cold.
