First let me say you all have my utmost respect. Second, I must admit my children are grown and my grandchildren are toddlers but what concerns me is all the testing children are given now. Are teachers teaching just to have children pass tests? Are children given the opportunity to use their thinking skills? Are they allowed to use their creativity? Are the children allowed to problem solve? Are they allowed to disagree in a classroom, by that I mean are they allowed to give a different point of view with a discussion from the class without being belittled? Is this accepted? Are you as teachers allowed to be creative in your teaching methods?
I was in Early Childhood for over 24 years - we tried to give that freedom to think, problem solve and be creative but feedback from elementry schools said not to do this as this did not help the teachers when children entered elementary school.
When I attended HS - there was so many things to do for all type of learners and skills - many of them came from extracurricula activites.
I am really interested what is happening in the schools lower and upper.
I graduated not the upper of my class but the upper middle class but I still remember things that were engrained in me at my senior age. I was given that opportunity to explore, problem solve, be creative, and to be curious. You know I do all that today. Will our young ones be able to do this?
My adult children ask me for advice regarding schools but I have been away for a while.
Would like to have your thoughts.
