Reminder - Triangle Fire episode on American Experience tonight on PBS
Most PBS stations will be running The American Experience at 9:00 PM Eastern time. You can go to http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/schedule/ and enter your zip code to find out when it is broadcast in your area.

Tonight's episode is about the Triangle Shirt Factory fire in which over one hundred workers died.

There is a preview available at: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/films/triangle/

The country needs to be reminded why we need unions and why collective bargaining is important.

5. Just saw it. Such a tragedy, yet . . .
Rethugs want to return us to the working conditions of that era. No minimum wage, no limit on hours worked, no child labor laws, no OSHA . . . etc.

We will NOT go back.

6. What struck me was the parallels
Early along in the program when they talked about the attempts of the workers to unionize, the comment was made that the companies did not want to lose control of their workplaces, that the bosses and owners felt as though the unions would dictate the conditions rather than the bosses and owners dictate them.

That reminded me so much of Scott Walker claiming that local governments needed the control of the work conditions to keep their budgets low.

What is terrifying is that so many in this country are buying this argument for the sake of "budget control" and ignoring the history of labor abuse by private and public employers.
