Assembly Budget Bill Passage Paves Way for Ejecting Protesters from Wisconsin Capitol

The passage of the Assembly version of the bill does not really move it any closer to final passage. As long as the Senate Democrats remain out of the state, nothing can move forward. But the passage does accomplish a couple things. First, as Donna Magdalena, a graphic artist from Madison, told me, “They didn’t want people to keep hearing what the Democrats were bringing up.” Assembly Democrats used the elongated session, the longest continuous debate on a bill in the history of the state by some accounts, to educate the public about the contents of the legislation. Now they won’t have the same platform on the Assembly floor.

But the bigger reason to get the bill passed in the Assembly is to shut down the Capitol. Under a bill passed yesterday, this could happen as soon as 6pm Saturday night. When we first heard about this, the assumption was that the legislation would allow lawmakers to close access to offices. And as the protest has worn on, while more and more of the access to the Capitol has been cordoned off with yellow tape, the common areas have remained open. The initial assumption was that this would stay the same, with legislative offices and hearing rooms closed but common areas still accessible.

The latest is that they will restrict access starting at 4:00 today.

5. I don't know if I would count out the police
The police have seldom been squeamish about quashing labor union movements. (And yes, they have no problems being hyporits about it when it comes to their own union).

Also, remember, the governor has planned to use agent provocateurs, so the cops will have reason to open fire.

8. I talked with a few of the officers there today.
They all feel like this is their protest, too. There is no effing way that they will get ugly with the protesters. Not going to happen.

..of the behavior of your state reps/senators? Deep down i believe we are genuinely Independent! but this push by republicans to go after unions when they campaigned on JOBS JOBS JOBS? F#@king lying, powermongering koch-sucking traitors the current incarnation of the republican party is embodying at this time all because a black guy is occupying the white house. The beginning of the end of these un-american assclowns who managed to get themselves elected (by hook or by crook) is at hand!

those cowardly republicans (who served under bush/cheney) alot of them are still there! ask boehner! the first decade of the 21st century was marred with corruption, vote/election fraud, illegal wars, greedy tax cuts for the obscenely rich & non-stop koch-sucking, all done by the republican party. Time to abort the g.o.p. from our political system.
