Senator Mae Beavers (R) is the chairperson of the Tennessee Senate Judiciary Committee. She has submitted two Birther bills, SB366 and SB1091.
SB1091 is the latest. The bill contains the following provisions:
- Presidential candidates would have to submit "An original long form birth certificate shall be attached that includes the date and place of birth, the names of the hospital and the attending physician and signatures of the witnesses in attendance."
- They would also have to provide evidence that they have lived in the the US for the 14 preceding years prior to running for president (The Constitution only says 14 years total).
- They would have to submit an affidavit swearing that they have never held multiple citizenship ans swear allegiance to the United States. (Again this goes beyond the Constitution).
- The bill says nothing about the vice president.
Senator Beavers appeared on a Blog Talk Radio show called Reality Check Radio last night. She was questioned about the contents of her bill and had no idea that it would have prevented Ronald Reagan, Dwight Eisenhower, anyone born in Tennessee and possibly every other state, and Barack Obama from running for president. She was completely clueless about the contents of her own bill. She said she didn't bring a copy of the bill home and "That is what committees are for - to fix these things." She was asked about the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the Constitution and seemed to have no idea that it requires all states to accept official records from all other states.
