I just gave the sign for Solidarity, the clenched fist, to one of those tax-clowns who stand on
street corners, wearing tawdry costumes and waving at traffic.

The guy literally threw his head back and laughed heartily as he returned my greeting.

1. My fist is generally only 80% clenched at times like that.

the middle finger.

14. Those people who dress up to advertise the tax preparing
services do so because it's a job and they need to earn money to survive. I don't see why anyone wants to slam them.

 I was confused. I thought it was a right winger dressing up to protest taxes. I totally misunderstood the OP. I thought she was messing with a tea puker's head. Didn't realize it was a tax preparer service. No tax service is doing that around here.

My only excuse is lack of sleep. There was an accident in front of my house Wednesday, no one hurt thank heaven, but two utility polls were struck by someone driving DWI, and the repair crews worked through the night into early morning.

Between the flashing lights and noise, I got very little sleep. Not to mention my nerves were frayed from hearing the booms as the polls were hit, then that awful sound of crunching metal. Mind you I felt grateful and sorrier for the workers and the rescue squads. Terribly cold night to have to be out there all that time.

So my brain is not back up to speed I guess.

Again sorry for misreading the post. You are right. Poor worker guy doesn't deserve the finger. Just the tea pukers.

6. what is a "tax-clown"?
I'm having a hard time figuring out what sort of person we're talking about here. The only people I know of that tend to stand on street corners in costumes and wave at traffic are people hired to get attention for a business or some kind of fund drive.

8. The same. They often wear silly costumes, so I referred to this one as a clown, sorry if that was
confusing.

10. the "clown" part I understood - it was the "tax" part I still don't get
Was he doing something that had something to do with the protests? Which side was he on if so? Or was he just out there waving a sign "Eat at Joe's!" for Joe's Bar and Grill or something like that?

I still don't get what this guy was or what he was doing and for what purpose, so I have no idea what it all means in relation to the solidarity fist story.

11. You've never seen people who are hired to stand on street corners wearing god knows what
Edited on Fri Feb-25-11 09:15 PM by patrice
kind of stupid costume, often holding somekind of sign, and waving and/or jigging around to attract attention, in this case, to tax return services, but also attention for stuff like 2 for $5 pizzas, or "free" carpet installation, or $1. "burgers", or . . . . AND ***MAYBE*** making minimum wage, though when it's children, and I HAVE seen couplets & triplets of children doing this sort of thing for a nursery or a car wash and stuff like that, probably for significantly less than minimum wage, . . . You've never seen anything like any of that????

Odd.

23. I already SAID I did
I ASKED what taxes had to do with it, and in this ridiculous rant you FINALLY put in there "in this case, tax services" which is what I ASKED since I had no fucking idea why you called this person a "tax-clown" or what a "tax-clown" in particular had to do with the story. Had you just explained what you meant when you called him a "tax-clown" in the first place I wouldn't have needed to ask at all, and if you had just explained what you meant by saying "tax-clown" when I asked we still wouldn't be going round and round here.

So, apparently, what you meant by "tax-clown" was some guy getting paid to dress as a clown holding a sign advertising someone's tax services. Maybe instead of calling him a cryptic "tax-clown" in the OP you just said "some guy getting paid to dress as a clown holding a sign advertising someone's tax services" would have been the smarter idea so people knew what the hell you were talking about, and when asked what a "tax-clown" was explained it simply by saying something like "some guy getting paid to dress as a clown holding a sign advertising someone's tax services".

Jeez, what the hell is so difficult about making one's self easily understood? Is it really THAT difficult to have just said "some guy getting paid to dress as a clown holding a sign advertising someone's tax services" to begin with and be done with it? And when asked what you meant by "tax-clown" just SAID that?

Odd indeed!
