TSA search Amtrak passengers AFTER riding the train!
This video is about a week old but I did a search and didn't see anything about it so forgive me if this is a duplicate.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1B3AubsTBo

Takes place at the Savannah Amtrak station AFTER the passengers got off their train. It appears their bags are being completely searched and also notice the TSA agent patting down the little boy...no reason whatsoever.

This is the type of government waste tea baggers should be going after, and I'd be right behind them.

2. And so many people on DU insisted that the TSA does not search train passengers
Particularly when I pointed that out after Obama made that dumb joke about not getting searched on high speed rail when clearly you WILL be searched on high speed rail at least as much as today on low speed rail.

8. I've never been searched on a train
We don't have high-speed rail (yet), so I haven't ridden that.

19. Its kind of pointless
If someone wanted to use a train in terrorism, they wouldn't have to get on the thing.

The difference between planes and trains is they trains run on tracks, a defined, restricted path. Just set up your bomb or along that path, no need to even be close when it goes off.

A plane on the other hand once in the air can essen tally go anywhere there is space.

Searching train passengers is purely theater intended to make people afraid, because fear is the most motivating emotion.

but, I can tell you that I saw police and dogs search a guy in Reno, Nevada two years ago AFTER he got off the train. Nothing surprises me anymore.

ETA: after the fact... too little, too late! Besides, who would want to blow up a train in the middle of the prairie.

5. Surely people can say NO to that? Or ask where their warrant is?
I think the only think the TSA can do is refuse to let people *on* the transportation in question.

6. This is about conditioning people into accepting greater and greater infringements on what's left of
our Bill of Rights. And there isn't much left to fight for after 9 years.

10. I lasted 14 seconds.
It's illegal search and seizure performed on an adult and my repulsed reaction to the tentative body language on the two boys suggests I employ the terminology of abuse. I am infinitely more disturbed by the notion of a TSA than I was before viewing. Such considerations were already not what might be characterized as a happy thought. Plus they're stealing? Sick to my stomach I am to see such apprehension in the young and for what? This strikes me as conditioning, authoritarianism style, go younger, they'll resist less later? Abolish them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!NOW.

11. On the South End Sounder Train ...
... which is a commuter train between Tacoma and Seattle on BNSF rail lines, DHS and the King County Sheriff's Department periodically patrol the trains.

Hereof late, the DHS guy has a bomb dog, and they sniff all the bags. They've never patted anyone down, getting on, getting off, or while aboard the train.

The line the public will accept continues to move.

17. It was ram-rodded through as a matter of "urgency"
Massively huge document that would take weeks to analyze but instead the senate was given only days before they had to vote. Yes, the damn Dems largely voted for it as well. My Senator - Feingold - did not. It is incomprehensible, and reprehensible, that the dems continue to support the re-authorizations.

24. Just an update
Appears someone called Amtrak about the TSA searches in general. Seems like Amtrak is allowing it. Still makes no sense why they do it when getting off the train.
