Song I did at the afternoon pro-Wisconsin workers rally in Juneau today
Edited on Tue Feb-22-11 11:15 PM by Ken Burch
(we had TWO rallies about that here today-a noon rally by the AFL-CIO, and a late afternoon NEA rally as well.)

For the second one(after playing "Step by Step" at the noon rally)I got to thinking about the Egyptian who sent pizza to the Wisconsin rally. Thought that pizza itself was an image of how unity could work. Came up with this(the tune was basically a "blues in E" kind of thing):

The Pizza Song

1)Pizza's always tasty,
Pizza'a always good.
Pizza is for sale right there
in your neighborhood.
Pizza'a always spicy,
Pizza's always hot.
There's not too many things
That a pizza is not.
And pizza has a lesson
That it's ready to teach.
I'm gonna tell it to you
And I'll try not to preach

(and here it is...)

2)By itself, each part of pizza
Isn't bad, my friends.
But they make each other better
when they join in a blend.
The crust is just some dough
until you pour on the sauce.
and without the stringy cheese
it's still a total loss.
Then the garlic and the spices
Add their strength to the rest,
And the toppings of your choices
Make it all pass the test.

When you take a big bite, what you're tasting, you see
is the flavor of unity.

3)So keep on making pizza,
take the pan in YOUR hands.
Because that hot little dish
Shows us how to make a stand.
They make it fresh in Cairo,
And Wisconsin too.
It's a blast for your taste buds
And it's food for thought, too.
If we ALL work together,
If we really try,
We can bake a new world...
And THAT's no "pie in the sky".

(feel free to use the song if you like. PM me and I could arrange to get you the tune)

2. Ken, I'm so glad you were there.

This is one of the many instances that demonstrate how much it sucks that we up here in the populated part of the state can't drive to our capitol. Many of us up here in Anchorage were with you in spirit.

3. Did they have any rallies in Anchorage?
There's a fairly large labor contingent in that city, as I recall.

What about Fairbanks, as far as that goes?

Thanks for the supportive message.

4. No, no rally here that I'm aware of.
I think there was some attempt to organize one, but there just wasn't enough time. You are correct that we do have a pretty robust labor presence up here. I don't think they could get away with what Walker is proposing in Alaska with so many union people here, but Sean's such a weenie, you never know what he's going to try to pull.

6. I'm a beneficiary ot the labor movement
Working people in earlier generations died so that I could have the things I have now. Just repaying those sacrifices to a very small degree.

10. That's right, pay back those who sacrificed and died to give it to us
I had to leave the hall one morning when a "brother" was loudly campaigning for Bush's 2nd term. He was bullying members. I wanted to to a very bad thing I can tell you. Had to GTFO, as a single dad at the time.

8. Very nice.
Glad that people are rallying around the country in support of Wisconsin workers. I think it might be the start of a movement. Revolution is in the air, everywhere and the people of the world are uniting. It's a sad time for some who have had to die to liberate their countries, but they will not die in vain and I think Americans are catching the spirit of those wonderful, courageous people in Libya, Egypt, Bahrain, Algiers and elsewhere. Maybe it can be a better world after all.

Great song, thank you!
