Are you sick of highly paid teachers?
The following was forwarded to me via email:

Teachers' hefty salaries are driving up taxes, and they only work 9 or 10 months a year! It's time we put things in perspective and pay them for what they do - babysit!

We can get that for less than minimum wage.

That's right. Let's give them $3.00 an hour and only the hours they worked; not any of that silly planning time, or any time they spend before or after school. That would be $19.50 a day (7:45 to 3:00 PM with 45 min. off for lunch and plan-- that equals 6 1/2 hours).

Each parent should pay $19.50 a day for these teachers to baby-sit their children. Now how many students do they teach in a day...maybe 30? So that's $19.50 x 30 = $585.00 a day.

However, remember they only work 180 days a year!!! I am not going to pay them for any vacations.

LET'S SEE....

That's $585 X 180 = $105,300 per year...

1. That is such a fucking stupid e-mail. They get paid by the hour AND by the kid..??.
..even their outrage has the math wrong...maybe they should have paid more attention in math class..

6. Well, if teachers were paid by the hour and by the kid, I'd demand more for some of the
kids than others.

In my experience, if you remove two to four students from a terribly behaved class, the class becomes managable and even willing to be taught and to learn...

i have 152 of them. that would be $456. dollars per day with no providing of lessons. just babysitting.
ed. by the way, that is more than i actually make trying to teach them something.

13. It would actually be $3 x 6.5 (hours) x 152 students = $2964.

Edited on Tue Feb-22-11 08:52 PM by Mr Generic Other
except that i have 152 spread over five teaching hours.
each student in my room for 55 minutes.
but i am not a math teacher so i could be mis-calculating the total.

26. and, i don't think that $3.00 is the going rate
for babysitting anymore. at least not in my neck of the woods.
i haven't had to hire one for years but i remember paying more than $3.00 an hour 20 years ago.

Highly paid paper pushing pinstriped pinhead = That's the "American Way"

Anyone that actually performs a function, paid more than minimum wage = Drain on the Economy

That's the way these Limbotics see the world.

32. There are some out there, trust me....
My mother retired a few years ago and she was making 68,000/year. She would openly admit that she didn't deserve it. She remembered that she started off making 20,000/year.

The big problem here is what often kills unions. They care too much about seniority. If they really cared about the welfare of the workers, they would level things off more. However, at least in Indiana, new teachers are paid next to nothing, while senior teachers are nearing upper class salaries.

Another big problem is administrator pay. My aunt recently passed from a battle with cancer, and she spent her entire life in education also. She started off making the low salary that is common with new teachers, but became an administrator (vice-principal) and retired making over 100,000.

There has always been a tension between administrators and teachers in Indiana because of the large pay difference. This is a direct result of the teachers unions going to far. They stopped caring about the group and started rewarding loyalty.

Don't get me wrong, teachers need a union. But it is an odd situation when teachers are battling the school board over salaries and benefits, but the school board has little leverage because they can only spend what the state allocates them. I would much rather see teachers unions have a larger presence in legislature, as opposed to a presence with the school board.

29. Deceptively beautiful! I hope this got (accidentially) forwarded to birthers everywhere.
I mean, they see the "teachers are babysitters" bit and just forward it.

(Of course they might as well read the whole thing and forward it anyway because it's over their heads.)

33. Lets just start importing teachers from Indonesia, why don't we?
Edited on Wed Feb-23-11 07:57 AM by peopleb4money
We could pay them in rice and give them a cozy living quarters with a dirt floor to sleep on. Wouldn't that just be terrific? They're trying to wreck the public education system They want to take us back the turn of the last century where all the poor kids, who's parent/parents couldn't afford to send them to a private school, had to work long hours in the factories to help pay rent. Now, if they actually knew their own agenda, that's what they'd be really saying. Since this retard doesn't understand basic math, though. that's a pretty sweet deal.
