Mitch Daniels, who I am not a fan of, just outclassed Scott Walker. . .
3:40 PM -- Governor says time to dump labor bill

Gov. Mitch Daniels signaled this afternoon that Republicans should to drop the right-to-work bill that has brought the Indiana House to a standstill for two days and imperiled other measures.

Daniels told reporters this afternoon that he expects House Democrats will return to work if the bill dies. It would be unfortunate if other bills are caught up in the turmoil, he said.

He will not send out state police to corral the Democrats, the Republican governor said.

The Democrat minority has right to express its views, he added.

1. He is more moderate than most republicans. He is also being touted as a potential
Presidential candidate. Good move on his part.

2. Good move if he's trying to set himself up as the sane republican alternative
We'll see if the Tea Party is ready to accept sanity yet.

In any case, a Republican "moving to the center" would be a nice change from them moving to the right and dragging the center with them.

I'd like to see the Democrats pull the center back to the left for a change.

3. Not a way to mobilize GOP primary voters, however
but I am not one to offer advice to Republican wanna be presidents.

4. That makes Florida and Indiana victories.
Apparently not enough Koch money in those states to enslave a governor.

5. there's a remote possibility that he's smarter than Walker.
He is definitely more experienced at high level politics. He did work in the Bush administration, something to do with shit canning our economy as I recall, so I see no reason to speak of him with too much admiration. I'd wager he's regrouping and attacking his objective from some other insidious angle.

6. Daniels is trying to "soften" his edges
He thinks he's sufficiently "presidential" to run for it:rofl:

He's not tall enough
he looks too much like HWBush
baaad hair

and milquetoasty like Reid

as much as republicans hate Mittens, I think they would choose him over Daniels.

deep down, they wish they could finagle a way to get Barbour in..

8. Mitch Daniels is smarter and understand Politics better than Walker
Walker and Kasich are acting like autocrats. It is my
way or the Highway. Power has gone to their head big time.

Daniels is smart enough to recognize his limits and
not stupidly put himself in a position where people
can disobey him.

Most leaders are careful to never utter a demand in public
that they already know will be followed.

They think they are Reagan. Problem is Reagan would not
get away with that Patco deal today. Delusions Delusions
Delusions of Grandeur.

Jeb Bush Boosts Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels as the 'Anti-Obama'

The kiss of death for your campaign, Mr. Daniels. Sorry.

10. I just read somewhere that he wants his other agenda items..
passed (he needs a quorum for that), then he will focus on the right-to-work bill. Maybe he is just more conniving?
