Reading FDR by Jean Edward Smith.
God how I long for another Franklin Roosevelt!

Here is part of his 1936 acceptance speech when the Democratic National Convention chose him as their nominee:

"Liberty requires opportunity to make a living-a living which gives man not only enough to live by, but something to live for.
For too many of us the political equality we once had won was meaningless in the face of economic inequality. A small group had concentrated into their own hands an almost complete control over other people's property, other people's money, other people's labor-other people's lives.
These economic royalists complain that we seek to overthrow the institutions of America. What they really complain of is that we seek to take away their power. In vain they seek to hide behind the Flag and the Constitution."

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

2. Roosevelt had already enacted the New Deal by 1936.
What he said was backed up by prior actions. The greatest maxim in psychology is: past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior.

5. No, because Obama has indebted himself to today's economic royalists
and we do know that he and his staff have sneered at FDR when they claim that they didn't wait 6 months to deal with the economic crisis. They forgot that FDR wasn't inaugurated for the first time until March 1933.

6. I had never seen Jean Edward Smith & didn't realize he's a "he"
Is his book a fair appraisal of FDR (I'm looking for a good biography). I ask that only because George Will is a fan of J.E. Smith, so that made me a little wary.

8. The Kuwaiti "infants thrown out of incubators" story is the
fact that clinched it for me. I wonder how many Americans realize that was as made up, as GWB*'s WMD crap?

9. World Class Warmongers
Poppy even faked satellite imagery to make the Roils and the world think Saddam had amassed his army at the border with Saudi Arabia.

What a load of crap. It'd almost be funny if so many millions hadn't died at their hands.
