US backs protests in Iran
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has expressed support for protesters in Iran, saying they "deserve the same rights as they saw being played out in Egypt".

Inside are dozens are metal cages. They are made out of chain link fence material and topped by rolls of barbed wire.

Too bad the US Government doesn't think the American people deserve the same! Remember the way protesters were locked in cages during the 2004 GOP convention?

5. It wasn't just 2004 and wasn't just the GOP
Did not the cages also appear at the last Democratic convention? I wasn't there myself but I believe they did.

7. And what's highly interesting to me
Earlier this month a number of fans holding tickets were turned away at the Super Bowl because the temporary seating installed was not up to the local fire code. The NFL did any number of things to try to make things right. I saw reports that the fans were offered free tickets to the next Super Bowl and cash payouts, as well as other compensation.

Sports call-in shows were abuzz with the story, and a lot of people took that position that no matter what was offered, the turned-away fans could never truly be made whole. After all, next year’s game won’t have the same teams (probably), people have made elaborate plans revolving around the game (just like the NFL wants them to do), and to be turned away literally at the gate is a profound disruption.

Which is to say, that for a unique event like the Super Bowl, people get it. There’s not a reasonable substitution that can be made for missing the Super Bowl.

Compare and contrast with the reaction to those who go to protest a political convention. Even though conventions, like Super Bowls, occur with some frequency, each one is unique in and of itself. There is debate and discussion of issues and candidates that has a definite shelf life, and the issues and candidates for the next one will almost surely change. One gathering isn’t interchangeable for another.

9. And
too bad the US government didn't think people in Egypt deserved rights when Mubarak had control, of the people of Indonesia or Saudi Arabia. It's obvious why we support the unrest in Iran.

The double standards in the United States has been evident since at least the Spanish/American war when we "liberated" the former Spanish colonies just to subjugate them under our rule.

Peace,
Tex Shelters
