4. I want President Obama to succeed at creating policies that will..
help Americans who need it the most, to develop a real and successful universal health care system, to return the Democratic Party to its liberal origins.

Some of his policies I don't think should be instituted. I don't think that reducing the deficit should be done on the backs of the poor.

I didn't say yes or no because I thought your question way too broad.

No, it's specific: his agenda, as linked to in the OP. You may also know of other thinks he's trying to achieve.

36. Then I will phrase it this way...Asking if I want him to succeed is a trick question...
Should I say no, I am joining the idiot ranks of Limbaugh and Beck. Should I say yes, I am saying yes to far more than your list, because he is doing much more than that.

I will say, that I want to see him have a successful Presidency. I felt the same for Bush, I just didn't agree with the former President on what he wanted. I disagree with a number of the Presidents policies, and do no want to see them instituted. That doesn't mean I want to see him fail, which is part of that trick question you asked.

At this point, I intend to vote for him because whatever alternative the Republicans present (and in our system theirs is the only alternative) will be a fuckwad of galactic proportions. I do not support the idea of a primary challenge.

11. It depends on what his agenda is.
I normally don't read blue links which lead to evenmore blue links, but in this case, sadly, I did.

You copy things claiming to be his agenda directly from the White House press releases. Well to me they do not hold enough credibility for me to judge Obama's true goals based on them.
So the answer is that I am not sure that I want him to succeed with his true agenda, whatever that may be.

So I will ignore your poll.

...in terms of the budget, reading WaPo, the NYT, HuffPo and any number of news sites, they all get the information about the President's agenda from the WH site or people who work in the WH.

16. I certainly do not understand this one
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=433&topic_id=611877&mesg_id=611877

"The budget, released today in Washington, would bring back pre-2001 tax rates on income and capital gains for individuals earning more than $200,000 annually and married couples making more than $250,000. The estate tax would return to 2009 levels with a $3.5 million per-person exemption and a 45 percent top rate. Under a law Obama signed in December, lower rates expire at the end of 2012."

Does he propose to bring back the higher rates now, or when they expire in December 2012? But all of the Bush tax cuts expire again in 2012, not just the tax cuts for the rich.

And I still think the $200,000 threshhold is too damn low. By at least $100,000.

But if he proposes to end them now, then why the hell would he have proposed, promoted and signed the extension that he did just two months ago?

Clearly that proposal has a zero percent chance of passing a Republican House, so proposing it is an empty gesture.

I don't buy it for a second. He didn't fight for it in December, when the fight could much more easily have been won, so he's not really gonna fight for it now.

on two was of choice, torture, spying on Americans, killing Pakistani civilians with drones, keeping Gitmo open, environmental deregulation, giving BP a pass while people get sick and die in my State, not holding insurance corporations accountable or regulating the cost of health insurance and medications while demanding that we buy their shitty product, taking wolves off the endangered species list while they're still endangered, pushing for more NAFTA style agreements with other Nations, falling far short of making reasonable cuts to greenhouse gases, pushing for profit charter schools, and supporting whaling. No, I don't support that GOP bullshit. If he had followed through with the assurances he made as candidate Obama I would be backing him 100%, but he has not. No lengthy vaguely related document that you link to again and again and again and again and again will EVER change the FACTS.

62. The problem is
I no longer believe him when he says something, having had too many expectations dashed. He's very good at making plans and promises but the execution is, quite frankly, awful. He is in many ways a status quo conservative, but the status quo is unsustainable and as it falls apart, he falls apart. I see no leadership and guiding principles even to those who answer directly to him.

What I think he's trying to do is "maintain the status quo", and I believe that to be an impossible task - the status quo being built upon Ponzi schemes and other unsustainable forms of fraud, embezzlement, and extortion.

So it's kind of an odd question being asked, and I guess I am looking at it in multiple ways.

Do I wish him to succeed in what he promises to do? Yes, but I wish to grow wings and fly too, and that's about as likely to actually happen.

Do I wish him to succeed at what he actually does - acting to maintain the status quo? No, I really don't like the status quo and was hoping for some changes that obviously aren't going to happen under Obama's watch, such as reversing the policies that facilitate offshoring and bringing in foreign labor; or prosecuting bankers; or returning to a state of non-war at some point, or legalizing marijuana and letting the million people in jail for it go free, or any of a hundred other things this country really needs to have happen.

42. Define "succeed."
I dislike your framing of this. If by "succeed," you mean that he is victorious in facilitating laws I do not agree with, proposals I find reprehensible, or that he takes the country in a direction I personally do not wish it to go, then, NO, I do not want him to "succeed." So far, that's been the case.

If by "succeed," you instead mean that he is able to make great things happen for ALL OF US, then sure, of course. So far that hasn't been the case - for the most part.

Do I want President Obama's education policy to succeed. NO. It will be detrimental to millions of K-12 public school students and price a significant number of low-income/poor college students out of pursuing their higher education goals.

A Pell Grant covers less of the cost of attending a public university than it did when Clinton was President.

It is his policies that seek to prevent my pursuit of happiness that I oppose, not the man, not some political operative from Illinois.
When I think of what he was given that night in Grant Park, and his cynical and selfish reaction to that greatest of gifts, it just makes me sad. He squandered the greatest thing I've seen a person be given.

Not if success means an endless occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan.
Not if success means cutting Social Security benefits and perpetuation of a regressive tax system.

Not if success means perpetuating our for profit (no pay-no live) "health care system"
