Grammy CBS Reporter Possibly Has On-Air Stroke; The Sun Calls It Hilarious & Drudge Links To Them
Here is the current article at The Sun: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3410435/Repor...

Grammy's journo taken to hospital

Jumbled ... Serene Branson may have suffered stroke during live telly broadcast

By STAFF REPORTER

A FEMALE reporter has been hospitalised after she lost the ability to speak during a live broadcast at the Grammy Awards last night.
Fears after TV girl's speech problems

CBS News reporter Serene Branson is 'hospitalised' after broadcast at Grammys
News

Experienced showbiz journalist Serene Branson was covering the red carpet at the LA awards for US TV's Channel 2.

When news anchor Paul Magers handed over to the pretty blonde she initially appeared fine - but in seconds her live broadcast had turned into a confusing jumble of slurred words.

It is reported that she was taken to hospital because of fears she had suffered a stroke.

Here is a screen capture of the original story they posted calling the reporter's behavior "hilarious:" http://bit.ly/h0uLQ0

Here is where Drudge linked to original Sun article (although it now links to the updated article): http://www.idrudgereport.com/sort.aspx

10. It could be, or a TIA, or even just something like a faint.
I'm sure she'll get a thorough diagnostic check. I hope it was just something like positional hypotension. That can mimic a stroke, too, but is pretty benign.

11. Thing is...
you always start w/worst case scenario and then work your way back.

It's a tough call just seeing the video, but if she showed up in the ER, it's standard to figure the worst. Just about the worst thing to do is start from the lesser...only to find to it was the more devastating and treatment was delayed...especially in a TIA or stroke situation...or a cardiac situation.

12. That's true, and is normal procedure. The reporter is quite
young, so there's a good chance this was a transient, benign thing. I certainly hope so, anyhow. I'm just ticked that anyone would publicize such a thing, not to mention making humor of it. Reporters are more or less public figures, but there has to be some decency when it comes to things like this. Of course, the Sun sucks, anyhow, and Drudge isn't much better.

15. Most people would never see that for what it could be...
what got me was the look of panic that came across her face at the end of the clip...if I had been on the scene, I'd have gone with aspirin before the ambulance arrived. This is time factor stuff if it was a stoke.

In any case, I hope she comes through it w/o any lasting effects. I wouldn't diagnose anything over distance, for all I know it could have been a panic attack...but if this was an ER I was in, I'd go w/stroke right off the bat.

16. Well, I have my fingers crossed for her.
I do have postural hypotension, and the paramedics have had to come. I have to stay fully hydrated and avoid standing in one position for a long time. I fainted in a Tucson hotel restaurant once, after driving 11 hours straight, due to it, and woke up with some paramedics looking down at me. I explained my condition, and after taking my blood pressure, etc., they left without hauling me off to the ER. Embarrassing and scary for those around.

3. Seems that in its initial reactions humanity isn't very humane.
I suspect, and it's more a hope than a suspicion, that in retrospect many would realize that personal tragedy isn't particularly funny.

I'm not even sure why any coverage at all is done of a reporter having a medical emergency. It just seems completely inappropriate, somehow.

18. I put the youtube video up
and have now been scolded for showing a lack of respect, if you can believe that. What happened was frightening to witness. People need to recognize the symptoms of a stroke and other brain traumas. I thought the video would be helpful. Oh, well.

20. I have insulin-dependent diabetes (since age 7)and that looks VERY familiar.
It may not have been due to hypoglycenia, but it sounds and looks like she was not getting oxygen to the brain for whatever reason.

When it's happened to me, I can feel completely normal--and I know what I MEAN to say, but the words come out jumbled and nonsensical. It was medical, and I hope to hell she'll be okay. It's embarrassing enough to have it happen--on live TV, in front of thousands--Ms, Branson, you have my empathy and support.
