Charlie Cook says Dems poised for a Florida Congressional surge in 2012.
Floridians, looking to end Republican gerrymandering, voted in 2010 for compact districts that are not drawn to favor a party or incumbent. Republicans are trying everything to stop it, but the law is the law. We could pick up as many as 7 seats there.

On a side note, if you know ANY public sector employee in Florida - teacher, police officer, corrections officer, fireman, government employee, there is going to be a "Rally for Education and Public Protection on March 12 in Tallahassee" to protest the Tea Party governor's (Rick Scott) budget which calls for draconian cuts to the public sector. There is a Facebook page with that title.

If you know a government employee, student, or professor in Tallahassee (FSU, FAMU, TCC) make sure you pass this info to them.

1. Cook has a pretty good record for calling trends IIRC.
Let's hope he nails this one too.

3. It's always nice to wake up to good news such as this.
With Scott barely winning in the huge Republican tide of 2010, I think we may be on the verge of pushing FL into the blue column permanently.

4. Florida was blue in 1996 and 2008. It should have been blue in 2000 and
was nearly blue in 2004. There is no way that the Reps should dominate the local politics the way they do since Dems outnumber Reps by about 600K. Gerrymandering is the only plausible explanation and it's going to stop - whether in 2012 or 2014. The Rs are using every possible political and judicial maneuver to stop the anti-gerrymandering amendments but there isn't much they can do in the long term.

5. Had the Democrats turned out, that abomination/war criminal
Alan West would have lost by double digits.
