Detroit Shoots Down Idea To Erect ‘Robocop’ Statue in City

http://www.slashfilm.com/detroit-shoots-idea-erect-robocop-statue-city/#more-97549

I’m sure you saw the Chrysler’s “Imported From Detroit” Super Bowl commercial featuring Eminem. Detroit has an image problem, and steps have been taken to spin the city’s image back in a more positive direction. Detroit Mayor Dave Bing has been soliciting the internet for suggestions on how to clean up the city and its image. One follower suggested that Detroit erect a giant statue of Robocop. Mayor Dave Bing actually responded.

6. the fictional futuristic Detroit portrayed in the movies is not something
that should be reinforced with something as foolish as a statue

If it were part of a museum exhibit or something that might be different

7. As if Eminem is a good image for the city.

I'm sorry, I just don't see a guy who sings to his little girl about dumping his dead mother's body an inspiring focal point.

8. Now that that's taken care of...
Let's get busy on getting a Wayne and Garth statue erected in Chicago. Party on, Wayne! Party on, Garth!

14. Maybe in Aurora. Not in the city.
Actually, a Wayne & Garth statue in Aurora would be pretty cool. It would probably attract a bunch of tourists.

Hell, they have a Fonz statue in Milwaukee.

AAAYYYYYYYYY!

12. hah!
Sure, privatization is fine as long as it is *tasteful*... Though I'm not sure Robocop has survived past his time, my students didn't seem to know about this movie, and teens are usually a good touchstone for anything enduring in pop culture.

15. He ought to reconsider--we could solve the Philly debt crisis if we charged for 'Rocky'
photos...can't even begin to describe how many tourons line up and snap away at that thing, daily.
