Did I really just hear Mitch McConnell on CNN with Candy Crowley
saying that "Social Security" was an unfunded entitlement? What the Hell should we be doing about this? Is it time for a wheelchair affront at the Capitol? Honestly, this is really just disgusting. Rob us blind and then rob us again?

10. No one ever does
at least not in the MSM. Olberman and especially Rachel call bullshit to their faces.

When are 'journalists', talking hair do's and the rest going to challenge these liars when they state lies?

This is my major bitch about MSM. They let whoever spout off their propaganda. :banghead:

14. I know, but it's way past time for some real demonstrating by the
people this most effects, and I mean all of us, not just the elderly. We can't just sit around and wait for them to destroy the greatest thing ever to happen to the proles. If you work or are unemployed right now, you have or will contribute to ss. The question is whether they will destroy the program and just make us keep paying the taxes. Perhaps discussion groups on Facebook about what social security is and is not could help. I would appreciate any suggestions, as I am not a technological expert. I do believe this would be the most effective, as people cannot travel easily or cheaply in this economy. Also, we need to address the most people we can in a short amount of time. The beginning of this destruction of our most revered social program is being threatened as we speak. The time is now! Suggestions please!

30. Agreed. Social security is more of a younger persons concern right now.
They are trying to cripple it by a thousand small cuts.

My guess is people who retire in text ten to twelve years will draw on a fully funded social security fund.

Retirees in the following 20 years of so will have benefits pro-rated.

After that - good luck - unless we shore up the system now.

My feeling is that not only should social security be fully funded and secure and safe from congressional raiders, but it should be expanded to include real cost of living increases, emergency loan provisions, a housing benefit and a health benefit beyond medicare.

13. They are trying to get rid of Social Security as we know it. This is
part of the reason why I am so upset with the tax cuts that was just passed. Because in two years the cuts will come up again and the Republicans will take that time to get rid of it.

They are planting the seeds to do it now.

Watch next week we are going to be hearing a lot from FAUX on how Social Security is the problem or how Social Security is making the deficit worse ETC..

15. People who work for Fox should refuse to attack ss, as it
effects them just as much as us. They all have families and unless they want to take care of all of the when they reach retirement, some truth should be coming out of the network. I know, that's a conundrum, but I do believe they are human. Ok, maybe not. God this is depressing.

21. It was part of the great surplus that Clinton left and
George Bush gave it to multi millionaires and billionaires in the form of tax cuts for the rich, stating that the people should get back that surplus since it belonged to them. They simply stole it. I remember called them the "Pirates of the Potomic" in a DU thread back when it was happening.

One of the reasons there was a surplus is that Reagen raised payroll taxes to ensure there was no deficit when the baby boomers started drawing ss. There were various efforts to secure these funds and take them out of the general fund. They failed.

This was one of the talking points of the Bush/Gore debates. Remember the famous social security "lockbox" that Gore kept talking about. Well, this is one of the reasons they stole that election. They wanted all that money. Over two trillion dollars has been taken from the people. Now, they say, too bad, we don't have the money to pay back those confounded IOUs and your insisting that we do is adding to the deficit. There you have it. What an argument! We have to stand tall and resist this destruction of ss.

23. The money for wars or "conflicts" is channeled into the Military
and Industrial Complex, where the rich get it, of course. Bless Eisenhower, the last great republican president. The vast amount of our tax money is not spent for our benefit. It is funneled into the pockets of huge corporations and very wealthy people, so that they can control more and more of the resources of countries all over the world. We are not the "guardians" of the world, but the "grabbers" of the world, or perhaps I should say, "one of the grabbers of the world", as we get a lot of cooperation from other countries. The world should be the "guardians" of themselves, but, alas, there is a vacuum of ignorance, and most people fall into it on a regular basis, leaving the rich and powerful to vacuum up resources and money because they can.
