Welcome to DU, francolettieri.

I have provided the source article link for you in this instance. However, I strongly suggest that if you wish your posts to receive positive, thoughtful attention, you make a habit of always including such a link in your original post.

3. This is a sad commentary on our education policy.
It seems that everyone who is not a teacher believes that the gifted students will always excel, whether we help them or not.

Proficiency testing is being used to punish schools, and that is the fuel behind the push toward teaching to the lower ability students.

Any teacher knows that you will bore those high achievers to tears, and they are the ones who will not be dumb about their misbehaviors.

as a rule.

6. This is why...
Mensa is full of high school and college drop outs. Members who have degrees are generally born to others with degrees and they received proper mentoring toward that end. Brain surgeons to janitors... not a bad mix actually.

8. conservatives are stupid, their kids are stupid, why do they care abt helping the gifted?
Edited on Thu Feb-10-11 07:26 PM by pitohui
just based on my personal experience but i think it's the common experience...in any group of people where most are of above average intelligence, then people leaned toward the more liberal and the more free-thinking or else were just apathetic, as in, social/political "people stuff" was beneath their notice

the conservatives and extreme fundamentalists were, and are, just plain stupid, which is logical since stupidity is hateful and grasping most of the time, you can't really have a "generous" stupidity because stupidity limits your ability to empathize (imagine yourself in the place of another)

stupid limited grasping selfish people (conservatives) by definition are stupid limited grasping selfish people, no stupid limited grasping selfish person spends a moment caring if a gifted child gets an education, they would be happier if she didn't -- less competition for their ungifted brat

9. Please do a quick edit.
You have square brackets aroundc the "S" in schools--proper orthography in ordinary circumstances, but DU's HTML recognizes it as a strike-through command. Use curly brackets or something.
