Code Pink In Egypt! Photos/Dial-up Warning!
Edited on Thu Feb-03-11 01:07 AM by sabrina 1
Code Pink! Putting their bodies where their mouths are as always:

CODEPINK Peace Activists Join Egyptians on the Ground in Cairo, Available for Phone Calls, Interviews

The activists report that Egyptians have been excited to see their message of solidarity from the American people. Many Egyptian protesters are carrying signs that say "My address is Tahrir square until Mubarak leaves" and they are holding firm. The activists also report that many Egyptian youth seem ecstatic that President Obama has acknowledged their voice in Egypt's political affairs but they want him to put more pressure on Mubarak to step down. Women are in the streets and have played a major role in the grassroots movement for democracy in Egypt. Today, as violence towards peaceful demonstrators escalates, the activists said rumors have circulated that the pro-Mubarak agitators are paid supporters of the dictator.

5. Those with internet access who might have been following
the war during the Bush administration may have. But probably most had not. I think they were happy to see that the American people support them. Someone who is there said tonight on television that the people of Egypt love the American people, but are not so fond of their government.

9. Oh, yes.... that is always what I encountered...
That is why I really never worried about traveling by myself. I always encountered people who really loved Americans and wanted nothing more than to get to know me. They are an innately warm and giving people.

23. Yes, I have a friend who worked for the British State Dept. in
Jordon and she and her friends used to go to Iraq to go shopping. She said the people were wonderful, warm and welcoming and they would give you their last piece of bread as it was their custom to treat guests with respect. She had to leave Jordon when the Iraq War began and she was heart-broken as she loved it there and the people.

I had an Iraqi online friend who I 'met' after the war began. He used to send me beautiful artwork in emails done by Iraqi artists. He was so proud of his country and sad about what was happening to it. He told me that after the war, when his country was 'normal' and 'safe' again, I could come there and he and his family would show me the country. He never said anything about the war, we were both afraid to mention it actually, for his sake on my part.

But yes, the people in these countries we are invading are not MY ememies and I hate it that this government has decided that they are ...

Because the way they are carrying out the protests is only comparable to Selma Alabama....in my realm of knowledge. The Egyptian people are showing the world the way.

Edited on Thu Feb-03-11 01:38 AM by snappyturtle
If you are in favor of urging President Obama and Hilliary Clinton. et.al. to halt federal aid to Egypt as a sign of support to the Egyptian protesters, please sign letter here:

http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/424/signup_page/egypt

Do you know that the tear gas canisters being tossed at protesters say Made in the U.S.A.? This is one example for halting federal aid to Egypt.

i almost didn't because your description "halt federal aid to Egypt" concerned me - i'm all for us withdrawing support for the current regime, but don't want to see the country crippled or starving. But the petition says, "Join us in telling President Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the U.S. Congress to stop funding the Mubarak regime now, to call on Mubarak to resign, and to expressly say that our government stands with the Egyptian people."

every time I think about little old me from nowhere Indiana actually knowing them, I'm so proud. Medea is tiny, brave, funny, and amazing when she's dancing and drinking the night away, I do know that, lol. I also know firsthand that she's fearless in the face of big, scary police thugs, and that she's great at sewing and making costumes, at public speaking, at absolutely everything she does. I adore my CP sisters!

22. She really is fearless. Some of the things they've done, like
facing down Karl Rove, took so much courage. Few people have that kind of courage, and she does it with such a sense of humor.

Lucky you that you know them. That must have been scary, when the police surrounded you all like that. I give you a lot of credit also, kas125.

I am going to donate to them because they do such good work ~ I saw a donation page when I was looking at their site.

If the people of the world had any say in how things are run, there would be no wars. But the world is in the hands of a select few. Maybe it's the people's time now?

46. Also, CodePink is asking for $5 donations to pay for
flowers and supplies for the demonstrators.

Help us raise $5,000 in emergency funds today to support the Egyptian revolution!
Send flowers and supplies to the demonstrators!

"Something wonderful is being born here: an inclusive, grassroots, democratic movement which is - even in this time of extreme crisis - enacting ideals of non-violence, creativity, courtesy, public service... what can I say? This revolution is not just Egyptian; it belongs to everyone in the world who believes in the possibility of a better way for us all to live together."
Ahdaf Soueif

Like millions around the world, you have probably been deeply moved by the courage of Egyptian pro-democracy protestors - and hoping to find a way to help.

The next major demonstration in Egypt has been called for this Friday after prayers. People are desperate for it to be a peaceful mobilization. The demonstrators have a plan to deliver hundreds of flowers to demonstrators, wounded protesters, and to the gun barrels of the Army's tanks during the next big uprising on Friday after prayers.

Will you donate $5 today to help buy flowers? This is one way we around the world can support the nonviolent people's uprising.

Or perhaps you want to give more. $25, $50, $250, $1000 - anything you can afford in this time of crisis. We'll use anything you give over $5 to by buy much needed blankets, food and medicine for protestors.

Join us in creating a beautiful stand for solidarity with the brave women and men on the streets of Egypt!

For $5, you can send flowers. Anything you donate over $5 will be used to buy blankets, food and medicines for the protesters in the streets.

CODEPINK has set a goal of raising $5,000 today to in emergency funds to support the next major demonstration in Egypt, which has been called for tomorrow after afternoon prayers.

Use this simple and secure form to make your donation. Any donation you make over the $5 is a tax-deductible contribution to CODEPINK (501-C3 tax exemption number: 95-4658841).
