"...the party of Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann.”
GOP Leaves Bachmann Alone, Hopes She Behaves

House Republican leaders have a simple strategy for dealing with Rep. Michele Bachmann: Ignore her.

“We treat her like all Members,” a GOP leadership aide said.

Paying the tea party firebrand any special attention would only heighten her profile, empower her and potentially create schisms within the new House majority, Republican aides said.

Republican leaders might have reason to try to manage the conservative Minnesota Republican more directly, however. Bachmann hasn’t been quiet in the weeks since the 112th Congress began: She officially launched the conservative Tea Party Caucus and offered her own response to the State of the Union.

“I think there are a lot of people in the leadership that wish she would step back so the Republican Party can put up a face that appeals to moderate and independent voters, and she does none of that,” one Republican operative said. “She has a segment of the Republican Party or the tea party that’s staunchly anti-government, anti-spending, anti-tax. There is no middle appeal with her, and I think there’s a great deal of concern that the Republican Party is going to be branded as the party of Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann.”

4. Nooooo! That's so unfair!
The Republicans are the party of Lincoln! And, and, Reagan. Yeah, Ronald Reagan, everyone loved him, right? Hundred years since he was born. Let's all remember some things we tell you to remember about him. Low taxes for almost everyone. Yeah, that's it. Don't worry about those, uh, (don't get me wrong) fine ladies! They love Lincoln and Reagan, too! So they're really not adding anything to the conversation that hasn't already been, you know, said.

Damn libruls. Trying to tie us to people in our own party. How low. How unutterably low.

6. Why? Rethugs think just the same as Bachmann and Palin brazenly blurt out loud
So they obviously are actually upset only because those two undermine and hinder their efforts continue spewing their bullshit and lies to the great unwashed.

8. Good Cop/Bad Cop
This has been the game the GOTB has been playing for a while. The nuttier a Bachmann gets the more "reasonable" the leadership looks. They can let the loose cannons fire at will and then the "adults" shrug their shoulders cause they know the "base" loves the red meat. Bachmann may be too narcasistic to see this is happening but the more loony she gets the better it makes Boner look.

9. It's too late. The GOP did that to themselves when they
accepted Sarah Palin as their V.P. This is what happens when candidates aren't vetted, their bright and shiny exterior masks the ignorance and incompetence. The shrill, harsh, screeching rhetoric of Palin and Bachmann are fodder for comics and this is what the voters will remember.
