I will make this promise.
I will fight against any Democrat that surrenders Social Security to the Republican Party. I will do everything in my power to see that they are never elected to another Democratic office.

It doesn't matter if they are a Congressman, a Senator, or the President of the United States. I am laying down my marker. I simply cannot support a Democrat that would surrender the crowning achievement of the Democratic Party.

Once they join the Republicans in destroying Social Security, they have lost me. And, in my opinion, they have lost the Democratic Party. If they are entertaining such thoughts, I would suggest they rid their minds of them immediately. Otherwise, they will be my enemy.

I'm certain they are shaking in their boots? Who is this one little Democrat that is going to keep us out of office? We are so scared...

And the GOP is pushing so strongly on these issues that it is incredible anyone would trivialize our concerns.

Is poking fun only limited to claims that cuts are not inevitable?

You know, anything can happen, but repeatedly distorting someone's position isn't particularly useful.

139. Too bad Obama thinks highly enough Grover Norquist to
allow him to give him advice on the Fed. Deficit. But hey, there is a strange standard being applied to bloggers who 'reach across the aisle, try a little bi-partisanship to try to get things done, once in a blue moon, as opposed to presidents with a 'D' after their names who drag ousted Republicans from the political gutter and put them in places of power.

How DO you feel about the President taking advice on the Fed. Deficit from the infamous Mr. Norquist btw?

Similarly, there's no need to go quietly into that good night -- is there?

Putting up a web page with a pledge for people to sign that they will never again support the corporatists in either party is cathartic for the signers, if nothing else.

141. Agree --
and in that case, guess the huge liberal voting bloc has to decide whether

we do or don't have "someplace else to go"?

Don't know if there's enough left of the Dem Party to save --

but if we could DRAFT Bernie Sanders to run on a Dem ticket and stick with

outsiders -- those Dems from outside the party who aren't yet bought and

pre-bribed by corporate money -- maybe we could get a ticket that all liberals

would vote for?

It would expand the liberal vote beyond the Dems -- perhaps drawing the many

who wouldn't ordinarly vote for a Dem?

That is a supposed "adjustment" due to supposed rising life expectancies. However, life expectancies are only rising in the relatively more prosperous parts of society, not among the low-wage segments. Also, manual laborers wreck their bodies at their jobs a lot younger than the rest of us do. Try being a 60 year-old construction worker with a bad back. Or a 50 year-old nursing assistant who has to lift, bathe and care for bedridden people.

Edited to add:

And count me in as well.

the weakening of SS does not deserve to call themselves a Democrat and DOES deserve to have their ass handed to them on a plate at the ballot box.

68. As many have suggested, DU should be fighting back on Social Security ....
the website should be giving some leadership on this issue --

but, overall, as a matter of conscience I won't be able to support Obama in 2012

no matter what more damage he does -- and will only support individual Democrats.

IMO, we need a new candidate in 2012 -- someone from outside the party whom we trust.

And it would have to be based on ending these wars --

MEDICARE FOR ALL --

Actually do something about jobs -- overturning the trade agreeements --

Caring for the homeless and impoverished --

Standing between Wall Street and the public -- not with Wall Street --

Renewing Glass-Steagall and returning to the regulations which protect us from

corporate crime --

72. Not enough to withdraw support ... there has to be a plan of action ---
a positive direction to move in -- a real fight-back --

And that's what we all need to be discussing here!!

Whatever liberals do -- it's a huge bloc of voters -- and we should be moving

together -- !!!

98. Not That There Are ANY Democrats Around For Me To Vote Againhst...
given where I live, but I TOO will NEVER vote for a Democrat that willingly votes against "we the people" regarding this issue and OTHERS that have already been voted on!

We have our OWN "little Egypt" here, but APATHY is the name of the game in these times!! Do I want unrest, NO... but our own leaders are doing a very good job by keeping more and more people falling into the PIT OF POVERTY!!

For the past 2 months I've pretty much stopped blogging because of the anxiety level that takes over my brain. Unfortunately, I'm only sticking my head in the sand by doing so. It DOES get to be too much for so many of us!

Living here in Florida I'm THANKFUL for the GREAT weather we are having, but then living in FLORIDA really, really SUCKS when it comes to our political situation! The SNOW will melt, but so many of us here know we are living with so much corruption down here and we feel HELPLESS to stop it!!

Recently called my local water department about FLUORIDATION of our water and it was useless! According to them, I'M the nut even when I gave them names of researchers who condemn the use of fluoride!!

100. It's socialism, I tell you
Interesting how three years after my questioning the Democratic Party (its choice of candidates for President, its locking out of Dennis Kucinich from the Debates, its war funding ways) and having numerous posts of mine blocked (praise be that the powers that be are now more interested in Democratic thought and NOT the Democratic Party) that this should come up.

And so many of you poo pooed the idea of cutting the military budget. What, you think cutting Social Security and Medicaid is better because bombing has more social value? Ugh.

Peace,
Tex shelters

We have a majority in the senate and the presidency. There will be NO EXCUSE for increasing the retirement age or any other right wing shenanigans designed to compromise social security for now or the future. And I will not fall for another fake special deal with Republicans similar to the bullshit Obama pulled to extend unemployment benefits.
