1. We have a hard freeze warning in Houston County.
Just south of Palestine.

This morning at 6:00 I heard it rain and figured that was the front. It was 35 degrees, whereas earlier it was 62 degrees and pleasant.

Then we got up at 10 and it was 25 degrees. We said OOPS! and dragged the plants in. Hope some of them didn't freeze.

The forecasters messed up. I thought the front would come in this afternoon.

2. They're forecasting lows in the 20's overnight here in Houston -
so you know the rest of the country is frigid. Right now, even with the sun out it's 30 degree with the windchill. Just brought my plants in.

5. I think the Green Bay and Pittsburgh people brought it all with them
Cuz we were doing just FINE (60's-70's) before they all came to town yesterday :)

They were show traffic cams on the news and saying "no, our camera is not jammed, those cars and trucks REALLY are NOT moving".

Just took the dog out and the minimal snow that is outside is glazed over with thick ice. You can't tell by looking at it but once you step on it, look out.

9. And the news' response: "OH NO, and it's MEDIA Day for the SB!"
"With media from around the world here!"

There are even people panicking: "will this paralyzing weather mean we won't be considered for future Super Bowls?".

Oh fer the luv of Gawd...it's not like they ever go back to the same place year after year.

I go to a smaller private university, they won't announce closures until tomorrow probably.

20. Hmmmm..having spotty internet connection
Called my ISP (Clear) and they said my acccount is fine and they aren't having issues reported.
Given that the infrastructure here is not used to minus ZERO temps, I wonder if it is related. Time to charge the iPhone to the fullest cuz I can't be iced in with NO 'net!

I expect that hard freeze is going to visit Big D as well. Better get some logs for the fireplace before they sell out.

18. That's pretty rare for Fort Worth
Bundle up ya'll.

Up here in the panhandle we're going to see temps hit five below overnight. We had some snow last night but, thankfully, most of it melted off the streets. Nevertheless, what's left is going to be rock hard ice come the morning.

25. 20 isn't bad.
People in the south tend to freak out about pipes freezing and so on, but don't worry about it. It has to get a lot colder for longer to even begin worrying. So far -10 is the worst we've had this winter for temps.

The 76 inches of F%&^ing snow on the other hand...

26. Actually, pipes freezing can be a problem. We have a lot of exposed
Edited on Wed Feb-02-11 09:49 AM by Ilsa
plumbing down here, and I've known people who had to redo all their sheet rock etc from broken pipes, even from just two days of cold weather. We're expecting 3-4 days with at least half the day being well below freezing. The pipes have to be wrapped.

The good news is that we don't have to worry about frostbite, road ice, etc, down here, except maybe for a few hours on Friday if we get precipitation.
